I'm considering subscribing to a VPN service and CyberGhost has deal on right now—$2.75/mo for 18 mos., $49.50 up front with an annual re-up. Has anyone used this service, and if so, would you stay with it? Review are good across the board, but these are uncharted waters for me. Informed opinions are most welcome. Many thanks.

That looks like a good read.

Quote from the above....

"Questionable Parent Company

As with any product on the market, you have to look up the company behind a VPN so you know just what to expect.

CyberGhost was sold to Kape Technologies (formerly known as Crossrider Plc), an Isreali based ad tech company infamous for creating and distributing Malware.

It didn’t take me long to find articles warning the public about the malware still being spread by Kape Technologies. Malwarebytes even posted an article on how to remove a Crossrider malware. Clearly, you can’t trust this company with your data.

This irony was not lost on CyberGhost itself. After the buyout, CyberGhost’s CEO himself admitted that both companies had opposing goals.

CyberGhost seeks to protect user data and privacy as a VPN. Crossrider seeks to gain user data to make money as an ad tech company. Ironic, right?"

Innerestin'. Not doubting your info, but it seems odd that if you (or anyone) could so easily find this out about them, they'd be in business at all. In any case, who is a VPN provider that stands up to scrutiny? I never quite know what to make of the reviews and articles I read these days, and tend to rely more upon objective, first-person experience, if it can be had. Any recommendations?

Every VPN will have a bad review(s) about it somewhere. It is human nature to want to complain.
Take the reviews as whole to make an informed decision.

Personally I use SurfShark and have been very happy with the service and pricing.
You may want to at least see if what they offer works for you ;)
