I think the CPL is a sport. seriously.

one of sports definitions (according to dictionary.com) is:
An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.

ok, so it's not as physical as basketball or even table tennis.

but sitting on your ass for hours is physical exertion too! 🙂

and the competitions have rules and regulations.

maybe i did not explain my point the best, but i hope some of u guy can see where i am coming from

Yeah seeing as how Thresh is regarded as well as Jordan or Woods. Any competition where a 400 pound man spends all day shooting cartoony people on a screen doesn't deserve to have the word athlete within a thousand miles of him.

being called a cyber athlete let alone joining a competition for video games is also a joke, FYI. 🙂

I am not a cyber athlete but I think it unfair for you to state that they don't deserve the term. They have skills for their sport, endurance, rigorous practice schedules and more team work than the Celtics! It IMO is a sport and hopefully someday it will be recognized by the general public as one.

I agree. I bet you get more exercise playing counter strike than you do golf 😉

Any of you saying that these people don't deserve the term "athlete" around them are smoking crack.

It takes the same amount of dedication, same amount of teamwork, same amount of heartbreak that ANY sport takes. In the physical sense, these people aren't athletes, but in the mental sense, these people rank up with ANY professional athlete. The pressure and concentration is the same as if you were playing football. Simply because these guys aren't running laps or shooting baskets doesn't make them any less potent at what they do. They are the best of the best when it comes to fragging your ass and it takes practice.

You put Kobe and Fata|1ty on the court and Kobe destroys Fata|1ty, you put them in any first person shooter and Fata|1ty would wipe the floor with Kobe. The money is there, so whats the difference? Kobe is payed to play hoops, Fata|1ty is payed to play deathmatch.

98% of you have NEVER been to a CPL event. You don't know what goes on there, you just hear the afterthoughts of it a few months later. You haven't seen the crowds around the CS pen when the semi's and the finals are going on. Matches are recorded. Every move counts. After the match is over, people go over and over the entire thing.

I've competed in my fair share of CPL events. My clan had sponsors, we got free hardware, free hosted servers... ect. The CPL is a joke, but they're the closest thing gamers have at the moment to main stream media. Gaming in America is changing slowly. Its no longer just a hobby, but rather a full time obsession. When you can rake in 10k for a tournament that takes 3 days, its more than just a "game".

As far as the guys who got the qualifier changed on them, that does suck. People take this VERY seriously. Anytime you dedicate time and more importantly to gamers, money, tensions run. I hope the CPL crashes or at least gets another President as Angel Munoz is a dipsh1t, but only time will tell.

Looks like SOMEONE's a little bitter that they get their ass handed to them every time they play a game 😉

If you're good at it, why not make some money?

Easier said than done. Ask the pro's how many hours they spend gaming. Most of the online interviews I've read state at least 10 hours a day. Yes they are godlike and make money, but at the expense of their social life. With that said, that's their choice and nothing we can say will change it.

The unexpected rescheduling does suck though, I see that it affected many people who are out of state. I wonder if it affected the people out of this country who planned to attend?

Ditto. The money is there but it no where near as big as any other sport in the world. From what I heard the CPL sucks but as someone else said its the only thing gamers have.

It takes less physical activity and a sport does require physical activity in the strict sense. I dont' think clicking on a mouse and moving your hand minimally using the mouse requires much physical activity. The mental side of it is what someone else said. No debating that PERIOD.

At the expense of 10hrs a week? Nah man not fun for me. I'm a much more casual or even no gamer then I use to be!

Back to topic:

Dam man they screwed all of you guys over. They didn't even take responsibility it sucks man. Change in 5 days isn't good. Did they even give an explanation of it in the end?
