Cyber Genie Headset controversy

I'd like to get a headset for my cybergenie. I've heard reports that you can ruin your handset if you plug a non-cybergenie headset into it. Is this true? I'm having trouble finding the original headset. If anyone out there is using a non-cybergenie headset please list the type. Thanks.

Does that mean the Cyber Genie headset I am using on my Vtech
telephone is going to cause it to burst into flames?

I bought one as a replacement for the headset on my little
bitty Vtech phone after noticing that they are identical to
one of the Plantronic models over in the phone area (of OD).
I paid $14+ for what is normally a $40 Plantronics headset;
works fine in any phone with a 2.5mm jack...

Yeah sorry about the post. I wasn't thinking. I subconsciously picked this forum due to the fact that I came across the deal here. Once again sorry. I haven't been around here long.
