I don't think they know if was was bots or an organized effort but the source is North Korea. It's being reported as a DDoS so probably bots. Seems like NK is getting more troublesome. I'm not pointing the finger at their gubment on this one just yet.

This is also more than a little concerning -
"The specter of cyberwarfare has led the Pentagon to develop a new cybersecurity command and raised questions about the government's ability to defend against attacks that could undermine national and financial security"

It's not NK's government, it's their citizens with easy access to broadband and cheap technology.

Ignoring the threats of NK may prove to be the biggest mistake since ignoring Japan in WWII.

There are two options: 1. NK is all rhetoric. 2. NK is planning a massive invasion to reunite the peninsula.

The fact that we are betting so hard on #1 is insane.

Hey spidey, NK's broadband is probably so expensive, they'll probably have to cap the bandwidth at 4 megaits per month so their attacks will be limited. Probably learned their lesson from Time Warner Cable, amirite?

High-speed data costs decreased primarily due to a decrease in per-subscriber connectivity costs, partially offset by growth in subscribers and usage per subscriber.

I'll be here all week. Tip your servers!

Even talking about NK will sort of disillusion the masses about how all terrorists wear turbans. Now they'll be like, "whaa jumpsuits?".

Really this is a non issue. I suspect most of the hype about this is two things.
1. - The media needs a good story right now, MJ is gone, and they know people hear the word cyber attack or virus and panic.
2. - The pentagon wants more funding.

NK 's net attack has zero impact on national security. The media acts like missile launch commands are on the pentagons computers right next to the solitaire icon. The absolute worse anyone could do from the outside is keep the public from seeing government sites like home pages for battleships. oooooh the horror.

I can't view the former Gov. Palin page ? it's the end of the world !

it could have been ONE creative, rogue NK citizen who wrote a virus, which created a botnet.

It's insane to think otherwise. NK depends on the US, China, and SK for a huge portion of their food and energy.

Kinda hard to wage war without guns and butter and unlike the last time around, China isn't going to back them.

They have plenty of weapons and a massive army. They funnel off food from the population for the Army. They are extremely dangerous.

Im sure someone could have come up with 1,000 reasons why Japan would never attack us, and why Hitler would never rumble through Poland.

Does anyone really believe it's North Korea? I seriously doubt it. It's most likely China.

North Korea has internet access? Do they just sit really close to the border and try to steal South Korea's wireless?

Obviously NK is pissed at us. Obama should take care of this situation by doing what he does best: apologize.

I wouldn't be suprised if N.Korea is really behind this, but you should know S.Korean right wings like to blame N. Korea for everything.
Though S.K, of course, blamed N.K over this issue, there was no single evidence. U.S officials acknowledged that they have no evidence thus they don't know who's behind this.
So far, they were able to track the source all the way to Germany, Austria, U.S, Georgia, and S.K servers.

BTW, N.K doesn't have official internet access and IP addresses. They borrow lines from China and because of this, their internet activity can be easily monitored.

Those aren't valid comparisons, not even close.

NK has virtually no energy and can't feed themselves. The regime is interested in one thing only and that's self preservation, any sort of conflict would end with the toppling of the regime either from external military forces or a coup.

It's not like their risk has any possible reward, therefore it's not a gamble, it's suicide, and states generally don't engage in policies that will certainly end in their destruction.

You know why they're pissed? Because Blizzard announced no LAN play on Starcraft 2. This is revenge.

It's too late to apologize. It's too late.

Would bowing down to Lil' Kim help?

I hear he is sending him an Elvis action figure too !
