CyanogenMod 9 (ICS) on Epic 4G... UX went backwards?

I was running an old GingerBread ROM on my Epic 4G when I installed the ICS-based CM9.

I don't get it. There seem to be so many features just missing that make life aggravating.

1. The new calendar is nice and slick looking, but I can't point and hold a calendar entry and drag it to a new time slot. I HAVE to click edit and manually edit in the new time. This is a MUST since only here do you have visibility of your other appointments.

2. I can't just tap the time on the calendar entry and type in a new time. I have to scroll up or down through the numbers like a rolladeck.

3. "Send Contact Information" seems to be missing. I can't press and hold on a person's number and click "Send Contact Information" to automatically text it to someone with the person's name already filled out.

A large number of other UI and UX things seemed to have been missing in ICS, or at least CM9. Basically, if I have to do a ton more tapping or if I have to abandon the phone and just get the same task done on my laptop, it's going backwards.

CM9 is AOSP based. Your old Gingerbread Rom was likely Touchwiz based. If you want Touchwiz features, install Touchwiz based rom.

Wait, what? Gah, what's up with all these ROM versions... I thought ICS was ICS was ICS. Does AOSP just not have as good of a UX as Touchwiz? It doesn't seem to be a matter of being used to using Touchwiz. It's just that AOSP simply seems to be missing features.

Most manufacturers include custom changes over the stock UI. The size and amount vary greatly between manufacturers and versions. I've never used Touchwiz myself, but I really liked Sense on my old HTC Droid but hated Motoblur on the Droid X's we got at work.

I've been on CyanogenMod for long enough now that I don't remember the differences, but like switching between any systems there are going to be differences in the functionality and you have to decide if it's worth it or not. I decided that having a rapidly updated firmware was more important than the additional things HTC Sense added to GB.

Yeah, the actual phone/contacts apps are much better on Touchwiz than on AOSP. Not sure any TW variants (from the S2 or S3) of ICS have been back ported to the original Galaxy S line though.

I use Jorte for calendar since the original Eclair SGS calendar had some nasty sync issues.
