Cyanogenmod 7.1 is out, 68 devices supported

Curious to try this on my DroidX, but I'm wary.

I'm usually pretty adventurous when it comes to tinkering with hardware, but I get nervous about screwing with my phone. Just rooting it was a big step for me.

I'll be keeping my eye on the possibility of trying this though.

I've never had that problem. Anytime I wipe my phone, after putting on a ROM the Market knows what apps I downloaded and starts downloading them again automatically.

I'm checking that out now. I have this running on my Evo, which isn't too laggy, and my Nook Color, which has AWFUL scrolling lag. I use Launcher Pro and the stock browser on both, so thanks for the tip.

I know I could use Opera for GPU-accelerated rendering in the browser, but the fact that it doesn't use the Android bookmark system is a complete dealbreaker - especially since it can't import.

if you use opera at home the opera browser works fine as it syncs all your BM for you

I've never had that problem. Anytime I wipe my phone, after putting on a ROM the Market knows what apps I downloaded and starts downloading them again automatically.

this generally works 90% of the time, however every now and then it does not for some reason, however you can go to the market website and everything is there, and you can just send it all to your phone


last time i did the rom thing on my OG droid it only re dled my paid apps and IDK why

My Vibrant has a problem with 7.1. I did an upgrade from 7.0.3 without a wipe, not sure if that's related to the problem.

What happens is when the phone goes to sleep by itself, when the screen turns off the capacitive buttons light up and will stay lit. And then after that anytime the screen goes off the capacitive buttons come and stay on.

If I reboot, it's back to normal and it'll stay normal as long as I make sure to turn the screen off with the power button and don't let it turn off automatically. Weird.


PS. If the capacitive buttons staying lit when the phone is off doesn't suck up too much power, then this might be kinda cool looking. 🙂

I figured out what caused the issue with the capacitive buttons staying on all the time. I turned on the "Screen-on animation" and the problem did seem to start after that. So I turned it off and now the capacitive buttons turn off when the screen is off. Cool. 🙂

Are you sure you don't have a notification? This is what the devs came up with as a notification light.

I turned off the "Screen-on animation" feature and cleared a notification at the same time. So I jumped to the conclusion it was the screen-on animation causing the problem.

But what you say makes a lot more sense. I turned the screen-on animation back on and the capacitive button lighting is still behaving normally.

So yeah, it must be as you said then. Well that's a cool feature. I like it now that I know what it is. 🙂

It uses less than 1% of battery life compared to not using it, so I use it. Certainly wish Samsung would have just given us a notification LED, but this looks pretty cool too.

If 7.1 stable was available for the Droid X, I would have installed it yesterday, but I don't want to deal with the nightlies for my phone. Oh well. 🙁

Does anyone know how this will work on the original Droid? I like Android but am looking at WP7 if Verizon ever gets an update but in the meantime if this can make my Droid perform better then I'll give it a try.

I'm running it on my OG droid right now. Seems fine. Was running one of the Release Candidates before and it was stable.

Honestly, stay on CM6 on the Droid. I have a Milestone and I struggled with CM7 for 5 months and said f-that and I dumped it for a Nexus S. I came back to the Milestone to tweak with it and ran a newer version of CM6. Someone on the Milestone dev team decided to update CM6 to have some CM7 features yet to stay on Froyo.

It's probably the best as Gingerbread eats up too much RAM. You'll see a lot of FCs on CM7, and even without FCs, the system runs out of RAM and Maps will close, Facebook will close, etc.

Hm, I was under the impression that this was dependent on your type of phone. Anyhow to answer your question, I have an HTC Evo and it connects fine to my touchpad through CM7's wifi hotspot app.

But at the same time, it also connects fine through the wifi tether app (beta 6) when I use a sense rom as well.

Which phone do you have? The Fascinate has a way to get rid of this, I know that. Go search the XDA forums for your phone, I'm sure it will be posted.

The fascinate. If you could post a link. I tried to find it but couldn't it. Only thing I could find was some old method from February that involved dialing some secret code menu, but that doesn't work anymore it said. Otherwise, it said something about the popup being coded in the service.jar and ROM dependent?
