Well the iPhone beats out my gnex

And I just want to try an iPhone, my mom has the 5 and I like it a lot better than my gnex.
So do many other Android phones.
Galaxy Nexus is near the bottom of the barrel in battery tests for Android...Especially the CDMA version.

Well then...You should probably have cited that as the reason rather than claiming "battery life" as the reason.

The iphone does very well and beats plenty of phones out in terms of battery life. While we can see some Android phones now slowly overtaking the iPhone in terms of battery tests, most people forget that phones are often idle, and sitting there. The iPhone with apps syncing left and right, pushing data every few minutes, does VERY well on battery standby. It's not too hard to get an Android phone draining 5%/hour by turning on a few apps like Latitude.

Speaking of battery life, I had something like 75% battery left on my Motorola when I got home. I put the phone on the counter and left it there. I checked it 6 hours later and it was completely dead. WTF? I wonder what rogue app did that but I don't recall using anything unusual that day.

This happens to me occasionally on Android - Motorola with near stock Android (official 4.1.2 release) and Nexus 7 with stock Android (official 4.2.2 release). I have not had this issue on iOS.

Me too, I am running a TW ROM on my SGS2. There are some things that TW still does better than stock Android certainly, but nothing I can't live without.

The problem with TW ROMs is that leaves you completely dependent on Samsung to release updates. Currently my SGS2 is on 4.1, and if I get the 4.2 update it will probably be the last one. Every CM version for the device has needed Samsung to release the kernel source code to work properly, so when Samsung decides the device no longer get updates it no longer gets updates.

For my SGS2 this dead-end isn't a big deal because I want a new phone anyway with a better screen and faster SoC. That sort of dead end will matter much more with a SGS4, where its screen and SoC are powerful enough that I should be able to get three years out of the device instead of 18 months. Without CM I might get stuck on older TW ROMs at the two year mark which will make the phone less useful to me.

As it is I prefer TW ROMs, but I would take a mostly working CM ROM of the newest version of Android any day over a TW ROM of an Android two releases ago.

Basically I want a Nexus without the crappy hardware. I think the US SGS4 should give me that.

I was running a TW ROM but tried 4.2 after the new Mali drivers came out, and WOW, it's like getting a new phone. I hope Samsung releases TW on 4.2 for the SGS2, I'll be running AOSP until then.

____

Truthfully, development for the SGS2 has been really rough because of terrible support for the Exynos. Bugs take weeks or months to get fixed. When 4.1 came out, it was something like 2 months before sound even worked on the SGS2 (w/AOSP) because Samsung wasn't sharing and devs had to find workarounds. I'm very hesitant to ever buy a phone with an Exynos in it again.

Good advice. I will have to try that out.

I certainly won't buy another Exynos phone again either.

Another thing I won't do is buy a phone or tablet as soon as it is released. I will wait a bit to make sure it will be popular without major flaws so the development community is decent. My Transformer Prime taught me that lesson.

Yeah, I think I've learned my lesson in this regard too. Particularly the "without major flaws" part.
