i feel lucky, my company only fines us $300.00 and our policy has been in place for 2 years now. My company has about 18K employees.

A new policy at the popular pharmacy chain CVS is causing outrage after the company announced it will require its employees to report their weight, BMI, and glucose levels – or pay a hefty fine.

CVS Caremark, which is based in Rhode Island, has some 200,000 employees.

The controversial new policy would require workers to sign a waiver that they ‘voluntarily’ disclosed the information, but those who opt out must pay a $600 fee.

Patient advocate groups say this is just another coercive measure and worry that those employees in poorer health might risk getting fired.

I used to work somewhere that has something similar. They used to give you gift cards if you provided the information. Then they decided to increase your contribution to insurance premiums if you didn't.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

you can't expect a company to take all the responsibility for your health, and not take any authority over it.

Besides, BMI and Blood sugar are things caused by poor choices, not some chronic disease. Fatties need to lay off the junk food and get some exercise to help out the goup health costs

The article is leaving out key facts...
- This only applies to employees using their health plan
- CVS doesn't actually get the results of the tests, they won't have the information

Then it doesn't make any sense to require it...

And how will they know you've had the tests if they don't get at least some of your health records?

And why do the employees have to sign a document if CVS doesn't get the results?

I disagree with this ignorant statement. A good friend of mine in his mid 50's started gaining weight and he could not figure out why. he ate healthy, walked with his wife every evening so he went to the doc. turns out he had typeII. he has his blood sugar under control now but losing the weight has been a real challenge for him. but anyway go ahead and keep being an ass.

We have generally the same thing and have had it for several years. Blue Care Network calls it "healthy blue living." We have to fill out a health assessment and have an annual physical before March 31 of each year, or else we are subject to higher premiums/deductibles/etc. For the physical, the doctor has to fill out blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI, whether or not you are a smoker, etc.

The fatties then have to carry around step counters for the rest of the year. The smokers have to agree to a smoking cessation program (like that's going to work).

Our company is giving a lower health insurance premium to employees who sign a statement declaring that they are non-smokers. Smokers must pay a higher rate.

Diabetes isn't necessarily caused by poor choices, and BMI problems can be from lots of things besides junk food and laziness.

It's crazy to allow any entity to have "authority over your health", whatever that's supposed to mean.

Are they going to regulate your daily calories next?

Your health is between you, your family, and your physician.

Exactly. Of course the story could be wrong, the way our media is these days.

But both versions I have read use the term "report".

1) Legitimate Type 2 is an obvious exception
2) Vast majority of diabetics are diabetics because they are lazy fat asses.
3) Ass hats who always pull up the "my friend wasn't fat" to dodge the obvious issue of fatness being the #1 problem with group healthcare costs are truely ignorant.

You fuckers that are apathetic to or support this have no idea of the draconian police state you are helping to establish. US, worst in History and it shows.

Usually I support fitness initiatives, and don't like having to subsidize the obese and their self-inflicted diseases. However, BMI is a shitty predictor of health. I'm below 10% bf @ 195 lbs, but I'd come out as obese or near obese by BMI
