Anyone knows if the CUV4X can support the latest Celerons? They seem like a good CPU upgrade.

No... the CUV4X will not run the .13um Celerons. You'll need a TUV4X or TUSL2 for that.

Thanks.

Damn, I hate it that every CPU upgrade also means a new motherboard.

Is there a fundamental problem with using the new Celerons, or would a BIOS update (if ASUS chooses to release it) solve that problem?

I believe it's a voltage issue and BIOS updates can't change the hardware
on the MB..........

:) and :(

Yep, I know that BIOS updates can't change the hardware (although if the hardware was flexible enough in the first place, the BIOS may expose new abilities).

All I can do is repeat the sentiment that I hate replacing the motherboard every time I want to upgrade my CPU - even when it seems like it's the same family of CPUs.

Well I've done many upgrades to my home machine and it appears that everytime I'm
ready to upgrade, it almost requires a MB/CPU/memory upgrade.
My last upgrade was Feb 2000 when I installed a ASUS P299 ZX MB with Celeron 466.
At the time Athlons didn't exist and P3 600 slot1s had just come out.
Now in Feb 2002 I'm looking at a SOYO TISU MB with Celeron 1.2 Tualatin......
It's just a neverending cycle...............

Powerleap makes an adapter which allows Tualatin CPUs to work on PIII cumine motherboards. But it may not make economical sense.

Yeah....I believe the Powerleap adapter is $169 (plus shipping) w/celeron 1.2.
Right now I can get the SOYO TISU MB w/1.2 celeron for $197.50 (plus shipping).
But I'm also getting ATA 100, 133 bus speed, 2x/4x AGP...............

I'm not sure why there would be much of a market of something of that cost to upgrade when you can get a new mobo and CPU for a simlilar price. You can pick up an Athlon XP 1600+ and mobo for around $200. Of course the additional cost isn't just an extra $30 diff between the Powerleap and the Athlon mobo/CPU combo. Usually one needs new memory and case/PS too, if one goes that route. But there are upgrade routes which don't require new mem or PS too.

The memory is already purchased (2 sticks Micron 256 at $25/stick, when prices were lower)
and the PS is an Antec 303x. Also I'm not interested in AMD at this time for my home machine.
BTW: I'd have to purchase a new PS and Memory (DDR) for the AMD setup not to mention a
reformat and clean install.............Greg

FWIW, I just picked up a new retail boxed Celeron 900 for $45 +$6.95 shipping from newegg. It is running nicely at 1.08 gig on my MSI-6309 motherboard which has the same chipset (Via Apollo Pro 133a) as the CUV4X. The old BIOS on my board thinks the processor is a PIII 850 but Sisoft Sandra shows it as a celeron 1.08 gig. So I am sure it is possible. The default core voltage is 1.75 and my board goes down to 1.7 and as high as 1.9. I am running 1.80 for good stability with the 120 front side bus.
