I have about 21 inches of extra floppy cable in my case... can I cut it off? I know that I am not allowed to cut the twisted part, but what can I cut off? and how should I do it?
thanks

All you need to do is cut the cable with sisors just behind the middle connector and plug what used to be the middle connector into the motherboard. I have done this on the last 3 motherboards I have put in and it works great.

Should I cover the part where I cut it in electrical tape or something?

No, you don't need to cover the cut part. If you look at a stock cable, the ends of the cable are left open. It won't hurt anything.

So I should just leave the openwires hanging there? And can I cut the thinger off the very top of the cable?

Cut everything above the connector that has the twist.

Cut everything below the connector just below the connector with the twist.

That should leave you with a connector for the motherboard and the connector with the twist for the floppy.

I used a razor knife when I did mine and cut the cables right up close to the connectors.

Here's a link that explains it.
