Cutting DVI-I cable

Has anyone tried cutting the extra pins out of a DVI-I cable to make a DVI-D cable?

Why? You'll have those pins not-connected on the display device end anyway.

Won't plug into the screen with the extra pins present.

Duh Have you looked at whether both ends of the cable are the same?
