I will be receiving a FreeSpeed Pro later this week and would like to know the best advice on how to install it. Would a slot be better? Currently im running on an Alpha P612H35M. Thanks a million.

Yeah, leave the front on unless you have an Alpha heatsink and want to attach it to the core (I hear that is hard). I have my back off just for cooling and kinda cause I broke it when I wanted to look at my core. I got a crummy 700 core on my 700 :(

I left the heatplate on to, and just took the plastic off... It was not too easy, I thought, you just put the screw driver in and twist it around...

It worked like that, but you have to use some power and than you can break it off...

But it is hard to break it... There is some protection. and you can hardly reach the board with the Screwdriver...

Well on the other side, I almost broke the pins that hold the board to the metal heatplate...

Well it isn't too hard... Just do it, it is nothing to break but $$$ and it is a good experience...

It's not really that hard... When you get your Athlon, just hold it in your hands and stare at it for about a half an hour.. look at it at all angles, and get used to it. Know how far you can stick the screwdriver in, etc. :DIt's easiest to start at the top first. There is a gap between the heatplate and the little clips that hold the Athlon in. Stick the screwdriver in, slightly, and gently twist. It should pop right up. If you want to save your casing, better be careful around the lower left(Or is it right?).. That pin is a biotch.

Yes it is no problem, you can see everything, and if you just take a look at it, you can figure everything out...

I didn't really know either, but I had the Athlon, and looked at it, and saw how it looked and everything made sence, to stick the screw driver in and just push it down into a horicontal position, and then turn it...

I recomend you, to lay you processor on a table and hold it as hard as you can, that you don't slite too far under the cover and nothing goes wrong...

Don't warry, all it is is a bunch of money that you could break...

Don't listen to me, but this is what I thought, if I would have broken it, I would have got a T-bird now...

Well don't think you are going to break it, because it is hard to do something wrong when you are carefull...

My chip has been running in my machine for about half a year now, should i take off my heatsink before removing the casing? So basically there are four pins holding the casing, and i have to "pry" the casing off? Thanks for the replies.

Personally, I jsut left it on, but when I popped it up, the heatsink came off...

But that is not a problem, you just put it back on... You should have left some thermal paste anyway...

ManuTo has to go and eat...LOL
