I just installed the newest free CutePDF writer. There are two boxes that are checked by default to install the Ask toolbar and search. But even if you uncheck these, Ask will be installed behind your back. Be warned!

I emailed them about it, since they claim 'no spyware' but have gotten no reply..

Cutepdf has been my pdf printer of choice for the last 2-3 years. It's quite good and the latest ver works with Ghostscript 64.

Unfortunately Tjukken is right. The latest ver will install Ask nomatter what. I was lucky to get rid of it easily. First I removed it from FF's addon list and then killed it with Revo. Still it should have never been there in the first place.

I removed Ask right after installing Cutepdf. I don't know how hard it could be with other browsers or after using the damn thing for a while. They most definitely need to fix this.

I still don't understand why they (and anyone else who bundles this bloatware in their installers) think anyone would use such shitty thing as a toolbar with useless functions.

I guess freeware should have its definition changed, based on what I see in last few years.

They don't expect anyone to use this or any other bundled crapware nor they care if anyone does. All they do care for, is the extra $$$ from crapware developers for having this distributed.

You have to uncheck the bottom one first, then uncheck the top one. If you uncheck the top one first, it grays out the bottom one and installs it anyway. Very sneaky.

If you uncheck both, then it just installs the CutePDF toolbar. So go into Add/Remove and remove the CutePDF Toolbar Updater and CutePDF Toolbar, then you'll be all set. Annoying, but hey, it's free software that works well, can't complain too much
