After doing a bit more research online and comparing the symptoms, I'm pretty sure they died of feline distemper. Pretty much all cats in the wild are exposed to it and it's a pretty nasty viral infection to get rid of. Sometimes a 100% mortality rate. The cliched "there was nothing you could do" comes into play right about now. Such a shite deal for those little guys, I wish we would have picked up on it earlier, might have been able to survive it. Now their mother has been MIA for the past few days. She probably has it and is dying or has died. Poor guys.

Jack, far right corner has died now also, 5:15am. Two hours of fidgeting, crying, restleness & pain. No animal or human should have to have gone through that. Die quickly, get it over with. I just can't help but feel that we somehow caused this. They apparently died of Giardia and what makes things worse is the shelter my mom works for recently had an outbreak of it. My mom was there the Thursday before we found these guys, so maybe we had a hand in it. Looking at the symptons, they match pretty well. The only thing that gives doubt is the incubation period is one to two weeks. We only had contact with these guys starting Sunday. Regardless, we all feel like shit about how things went down. We grabbed those little guys to get them good homes so they don't have to end up feral and not even a full week later they're all dead. I'm so sorry guys, we should have just left things alone and left you with your mother. Who knows, you all might have still been alive.

Otto died this morning at 7:30. I really thought he was going to make it too. Kept up on him all night, fed him as necessary and he didn't make it. Ugh, poor little guy. Jack is the only one left and he's somewhat ok. Sleeping most of the day and throwing up. Been feeding him on the hour to keep him going. Looks like another all nighter, I really hope he makes it.

Emma has died. :( She was lethargic and wasn't moving around a lot Thursday morning. We took her and the other two to the vet as soon as we could to try and find out what was wrong. Dehydrated and had a bad mouth odor from what the vet could find. She also said that it's possible it could have been fading kitten syndrome. I can't help but feel like we caused it somehow. We took them from their mom so they wouldn't end up feral or dog food or whatever the hell else that can go wrong and three days later she dies. Now Otto is throwing up and acting a little off, Jack is the only one that seems to be ok. I know I know, "you're doing what you can" but I still feel like crap about it. I don't know what else to say, just had to vent I guess.

Forgot to add, she was alive when we brought her home from the vet. Following their advice, we fed her from an eye dropper with KMR. Because the vet thought her blood sugar may have been low we also gave her some Caro (corn syrup, fructose) to try and bring her sugar up. Thought it was working too because she was fidgeting and starting to meow again, even bit my aunt's finger a couple time like she was trying to nurse. I so thought she was going to make it and then she just dies.

So we've been feeding an outdoor stray/feral cat for a while now and before we could catch her and get her spayed she got pregnant and had kittens. Thankfully we found the little guys and we're going to be taking care of them until my mom can take them to the no kill animal shelter where she volunteers. Get them good homes and well taken care of. If we didn't already have cats we'd probably end up keeping them. They're roughly four weeks old, have to bottle feed them which has been entertaining. Yes, we know they shouldn't be away from their mother at this age but this was our only chance to catch them before they got too old/killed/eaten. Now to the important stuff, pictars:

Two boys and one girl. They grey one I've already named Otto, still have to decide the other two.

Yes, they're blurry. I didn't want to use a flash and freak them out any more than they already are. The little calico was being fed which is why she's not in a couple of shots. I'll get some better shots when they have a chance to get adjusted to things.

Very nice.

I love cats/kitties so dang much!!!

I so want to own one... but that can't happen as I am allergic to just about everything, and moderate-severely to cats, so I couldn't ever live with one. I sure like to play with them when visiting someone with one, or when I see a stray one outside.

So, if they ever come up with a cure for allergies, I'll have to get like four to make up for all the time without one. :)

We took in a stray that turned out to be pregnant. She had 3 kittens a month later and we planned to keep her and one of the kittens and give away the other 2. That was in 1994 and all but 1 (he passed away 2 years ago) still live with us. We just couldn't give them away when the time came.

Same thing happened at my parents' house. They were feeding a stray cat, and before they knew it the thing was having kittens in their woodpile. I was moving out at the time, so my then-fiancee and I took my parents' old cat (really my cat) and one of the kittens, and my parents kept the other three. It's great having a cat that you've raised since it was born.

It's funny, my wife HATED cats when we met. Wouldn't even let my cat in the same room as us. But she grew to like them, and now she's a cat person too.

That's so sad...And I can really understand how you feel. My parents had to put down my cat when I was little because he developed epilepsy, and I never really got over it. I'm always looking for kittens that have big tufts of fur on their necks like he did.
