Cut myself while cooking

damn near cut off the tip of my thumb courtesy of my sharp-ass Global knife. I rinsed it under cold water and wrapped it in a papertowel to stop the bleeding, but the damned thing just wouldn't stop gushing blood. I continued cooking while changing the papertowel but a little while later I got dizzy as fuck, I almost went head first into the fryingpan I was cooking bacon on.
I pulled up a chair, bag of M&Ms and a can of coke and sat down and emptied both, afterwards I went back to cooking and all was well for 5 minutes, then I started shaking and alternating between feeling cold and hot. At this point I was getting annoyed and after changing the papertowel one last last time finished cooking and told my lazy and useless body to get it together.
I put on a bandaid after rinsing the wound again and sat down to eat and started feeling fine. Now I can't even feel the wound or anything but I just can't figure out why I got dizzy, I don't mind the sight of blood and it didn't seem like I lost enough of it to get dizzy that way, I mean I soaked a couple of papertowels but I've lost much more blood than that before without feeling a thing.

TL;DR: my weaksauce body needs to get its fucking act together.

Next time, use super glue.

I don't have medical grade superglue at hand, the OTC stuff isn't really suitable for closing wounds, It'll get the job done but it might casue irritation and deterioration. it's also only some types of wounds that you should use superglue on and since I don't really have any formal training in using it I can't determine if this was one of those cases.

I've found that cuts with sharp kitchen knives are not that bad because they are so clean you hardly feel it. I usually get less blood, less pain, and a cleaner heal. Then again I cut myself cooking maybe once a year.

I did a good number of the tip of my finger a while back while cutting potatoes. Since they were hard to cut with one hand I was putting my finger on the end of the knife to help push down... stupid idea. As I was cutting, my finger slid across the tip. It was from the dull side but because it still swiped the tip it cut me pretty good. I put it under cold water and put a bandage and I was good to go. Was worried it might need stitches but it healed ok. This happened on my lunch break so I did not have time to go to the ER or anything to check it out. I just put that bandage on super tight to keep both skin flaps still and it was ok. Lucky I did not do any nerve damage, it was a pretty deep cut.

I avoid trying to rush a croc pot supper on my lunch now. When you are rushed, accidents are more likely to happen.

You probably cut yourself a bit too deep. Yes, you are mortal after all. Go get a doctor to look at it and update all your vaccine shots if you want to live and not suffer pain and a amputated finger later.

It was mild shock. You get dizzy because all your blood starts pulling to the center of your body.

A real man would heat up an iron skillet and press the cut on it to cauterize the wound. Just sayin'

Any kind of significant injury registers on the "queasy" scale with me. A couple of days ago I was moving inventory around in our new hunting wear department and a bit of clothes hanger improvisation I had implemented caught me in the forearm. It was a round rack that I had jacked up to the maximum height to hang coveralls on, but I didn't realize how sharp the wire that I had secured it with was. I pretty much just walked by it and the wire slid right through my skin and out the other side. I'm looking at the two holes in my arm right now. It didn't really hurt at all, but I keep imagining the crunchy sound it made as if it were the razor sharp wire tearing through the layer beneath my skin and raking across the muscle beneath it. I was sort of hung for a minute before I could work out the angle with which i could unhook myself. Better me than a customer I guess though.

still alive. the bleeding has stopped so I'm not removing the bandaid to take a pic, I don't want to tear up the wound again.
lol @ going to the hospital, I'm not going to the hospital unless shit that I need is falling off, plus I already had pretty much all vaccines known to man in the army.
I think low bloodsugar may have been a contributing factor, this happened at 7.30 pm and I normally eat at 6.

it's now 11.30 so i guess I'll be heading to bed soon, I have to get up early and clean up my apartment before I visit my parents tomorrow. I guess I shouldn't have spent my day sleeving cables for a new build. ps, pin removal tools are useless for seasonic cables :(

i don't like you. but i don't want you to get hurt. be careful.
I love you too

Put pressure on it next time you cut yourself that deep. You sound like you never hurt yourself before.

Here's a nice scratch from yours truly.

Get a styptic pencil to stop the bleeding (assuming the cut isn't too large).

For cuts in general, I skip the bandages, and just use something called New Skin. It's a liquid bandage that presumably works like superglue. You spread it over the wound it disinfects and covers the wound at the same time. It's not very effective while the cut is still bleeding, but if you can get it to stop bleeding initially, the liquid bandage will prevent the cut from bleeding again.

I did put pressure on it. I hurt myself all the time and I have standard combat medical training which all soldiers in the danish army get, I managed the wound properly with the tools I had, I do wish I had a fentanyl lollipop though (not that there was any pain, it would just be a good excuse to get high as a kite).

the problem was the dizziness which was unexpected given the circumstances.
