Some asshat just moved out and left the house to basically rot...pool is green and front and backyard were overgrown. City cuts the grass after 12" but this is really rare to see them do it.

didn't do the back yard as it's not visible.

Anyone else take these things on in their neighborhood?

Yeah Ronald went to a business trip in Dubai so I called Miguel to retrim his hedge statues. Being a good neighbor is tough sometimes.

Pool sounds like a skeeter pit.No such problems in my hood but a house that was on the market for a year or so was getting very little attention and I will say I almost did mow the lawn once. It was just a minor blight. Nice houses and then boom some pos that nobody lives in and cannot be bothered to pay $100/month to have its lawn kept in ok shape.

The house next door to mine has been vacant for about 10 months. I've recently started to turn on their sprinklers for them because the summer heat had killed all their grass. Their yard is actually greening up quite nicely now.

My neighborhood doesn't have to deal with overgrown lawns or abandoned houses, but we do have to deal with 3+ families in this one newly-sold house. They have 7 cars that spill out over the sidewalk, into the street, line both sides of the street, etc. They also have tons and tons of kids toys (there's something like 6 or 8 children there, all under the ages of 10) all over the lawn, all over the sidewalk, and even bikes and balls left right in the middle of the street in the middle of the night. They have garbage all over the lawn, their shit strung over the neighbor's fence on one side, and more of it hanging over the city's fence that "guards" entrance to a service area for the local wetlands area right behind our houses. They're horribly noisy. Their kids will lbe riding all over the street when I come home at 9pm and they don't get out of the street when I flash my high beams, honk, and straight up yell out the window to get the fuck out of the road. :frown:

Behind me is woods, to the left is woods, acroos the road is woods. Have a neighbor over some woods to the right, and one kitty-corner across the road to the right. Can't really see more than a glimpse of their lawns.

See if you can get some of those bugs that eat mosquito eggs and put them in the pool.

ah i hate sh*t like that. We had some white trash neighbors at our last hood, too. They are the worst, with their sh*t everywhere making the hood look like an impound lot.

The house next to the one I am closing on Monday is like that. But get this - it's owned by the home owner's association. If you could expect anyone to maintain their property . .

I hate that...my thoughts are for property taxes to be applied based on the number of adults living in a place.

Hard part is proving who 'lives' there. Most places base it on overnight parking and many just go out clubbing/dealing/stealing at night then sleep all day.

No, people are actually hanging on to their homes around here for the most part. My street has 16 houses on it and all but 1 of them is owner occupied. There is 1 rental and we know the owners as they live about 2 miles away and own that home too.

No idea if we have a city code enforcement, so I wouldn't know who to contact. I can start digging, though.

No, we don't have an HOA, thank god.

QFT. That's one thing I will never do; live in a neighborhood with a HOA.

One thing I'm curious, how does the HOA enforce themselves? Like, lets say I want to buy a house that happens to be in a HOA. Will the seller just not sell it to me if I don't agree to the HOA terms, or what? Why can't you just tell them to fuck off? lol

It becomes part of the purchase. The seller has no control over whether the HOA applies or not.

no idea what that means... we had no issues getting a loan on either house we have purchased, neither were part of an HOA

Read that as the home printouts for the contract, not listings.

i will forgive you this time alkemyst... i hate 99% of your posts but i know better than to argue anything home/mortgage/etc. with ya
