Cut a third drive in case

It wouldn't be practical. Place that device in a 5.25" bay adapter and use one of the 5.25" bays. I took my card reader/USB 3.5" bay, added the rheostat from my Gigabyte Rocket 3D cooler to an external 3.5" to 5.25" bay adapter. I only had to drill two holes in the plastic face plate of the adapter bay bezel for the rheostat.

What did I accomplish? I consolidated the use of two 3.5" drive bays into a single 5.25" bay. I didn't get near my Lian Li case with a power tool. The end result is quite satisfying.

That first case has a removable mainboard tray. The second one does not. I would choose the first. Plus, it doesn't have the garish appliques of the second.

This looks exactly like the bay adapter that I used that came with my Soyo Dragon Ultra Plus mainboard.

can anyone recommend a good case with three external 3.5 bays? lol, people, by external i mean that it is usable on the case and not an internal drive bay....
or has anyone any experience withe cases above?

If you REALLY 'need' the three bays, get the Lian-Li case and be done with it. Otherwise, you're just going to do a hack job on the knock-off case. If you don't do a good job there, you'll wind up replacing that case and spending more than if you just got the Lian-Li the first time.

Also, I fail to see why you 'need' three bays... Any LCD that will fit in three 3.5" bays is going to be bloody small. Why not just connect it up to your computer or display proper?? THAT would be a more intelligent option (which is probably why it's not being done).
