Recieving a computer from canada. Worth about 5-600$. If its marked as a gift do I need to pay anything? How does customs work? I have never done this before.

You are asking advice on defrauding Customs, right? I mean, is it a gift or not? If it is, then why not read verbatim what Customs has to say?

Are you using a broker? Are you using Fedex, UPS, or USPS? Who shipped it and from where?

No, I am not defrauding customs. It is a gift but I didn't know since it still was expensive. Its being shipped fedex or usps. Not sure yet.

Sorry for misunderstanding. Generally, you are allowed 100 dollars for a gift exemption, or 200 dollars for a personal use exemption. Since your computer will be over that limit, you will have to pay a duty unless you lie.

And then when it gets damaged during shipping, you can get your $50 claims check for your $600 computer.

IMO, it's better to just be honest and pay the required duty/taxes. And if anything happens to it, you're protected. Not to mention the whole karma thing if you believe in it.
