Customize the Dock in OS X

I have some stuff I really don't want or need like GarageBand and I was wondering if it's possible to customize the dock to remove things or add frequently used programs to it?

You can just drag the icons from the dock to the trash can and drop applications into the dock and the OS will make the shortcut
