3. However, I do not understand why people hate the employee for this situation. It is not the employee's fault for knowing sh!t about computers. It is the management's and corporate's fault for not getting proper training programs into place to educate their employees. All these people did was wanted a job, and got one. I'm sure they figured, "Well, I don't know much about computers, but I'm sure I'll learn." Well guess what, you got taught jack. But again, not the unknowledgeable employee's fault.
Ok, I have to take issue with your opinion. It IS the employee's fault for not educating themselves. There's this wonderful thing called the "internet" which has loads of information on the "World Wide Web". Nothing is preventing the brain dead salesmen from accessing some computer sites (like Anandtech, for instance) and learning about what they are pushing onto customers.
Yes, management may suck in not providing training, but that does not in any way release them [the salesmen] from any responsibility in training themselves. Of course, given the lack of motivation to excel which is seemingly intrinsic to Best Buy employees, I am hardly surprised. It just means that they are at the pinnacle of their employment capability.
I applied for a part-time job at the local BB in pc sales. I interviewed with the manager....
"So you work full-time @ IBM...what do you do there?"
I tell him and it's like woosh...right over his head
"Wow, so you know alot about computers"
I reply "a fair amount"
"So what do you think of ESP's?"
I tell him that they are almost pure profit for whatever store sells them especially something that depreciates as much as computers, but I have no problem pushing them if that is required.
He disagrees and tells me that as expensive as computers are it is foolish to not buy ESP's.
We talk more about computers and I become completely aware that this PC manager knows less than the typical 8 y/o about computers.
He says great the store manager should be contacting me soon to setup a second interview.
(WTF, 2 interviews for a sh!tty p/t job at worstbuy?)
*crickets, tumbleweed*
Never hear from them again.
Got a job @ a home improvement store and been there for almost a year and a half now.
