Custom Water Cooling

This may be the n00biest question ever but......i just built a custom cooling system with 1/2in diameter, and id like to know if i can fill it with antifreeze...would i get more effcient cooling then distilled water?? when i think about it it seems to make sence....maybe its hard to bleed the bubbles out?

And if not so can someone give me their opinion about the best cooling aditive that i can add to the usual distilled water that can provide better cooling??

why would you want to use antifreeze? its not like the water temps are ever getting close to freezing unless you put some dry ice in your reservoir- i just use distilled water but lots of people use non-conductive water and mix a coolance formula in with some anti-corrosive, im still looking into that

Antifreeze would raise your temps compared to water because it is more viscous than distilled water. Antifreeze would only help if you were trying to cool your water past 0C (32F), but then there are better water additives than antifreeze for that.

The usual mixture is 10%-AF/90%-distilled, but in all honesty, you can do better. I'm 5-months using this and my coolant is still crystal clear.

Oops... Sorry... Antifreeze actually will work well. A 50-50 antifreeze will kill any gunk-junk, prevent any metal corrosion, and raise the thermal conductivity of the water.

HW is their a odor with that stuff. or is it odor free.😎
I use antifreeze. 2parts anti 8parts distilled for a year and 2 months with no critters.
But i still flush my blocks regular. old habbits are hard to brake.and i hate the smell.
thats the only draw back that i have with antifreeze.
what the chill factor of that stuff in link.🙂

Nope, and the first thing I did was smell it. 😉 It feels, smells and looks like water, but when you put it in, if you have a res, you can see a bit of something that looks like light oil. That only lasted for a week or so, near as I can tell. I know what you mean, I used waterwetter once (never again), and when I flushed it smelled like gym shoes when you leave them in a locker too long. :disgust:

This is a myth. The kind that stays around even when its been proven to be wrong because it's easy. Water, plain water, is the best substance known for holding\conveying thermal energy. As for galvanic corrosion (caused by mixing metals in the same loop), isn't it simpler to just use metals that tolerate each other, or the same metal in a loop? If that isn't an option, there are dedicated additives that get the job done, last longer and without completely useless additions like substances to make AF taste bad.

As far as AF being anti-bacterial\algae the same thing is true. The fact that it kills things is ancillary at best in that it is in no way designed to do so. Again, there are antibiotic solutions that work a lot better and last much longer.

makes sence.....

Im building a new rig over 4800$ and i just want to get the best cooling possible...without going with vapor chill yet lol...maybe ill move to greenland and just hang my mobo out the window....or dirve to canada with it rigged up on the roof ;-)) now that would make a good futuremark hall of fame story lol

of course....little by little.....screw up by screw....accomplishment by accomplishment......i plan to seriously mod everything...im cutting the case and painting...taking apart my HD's and adding lights ect...and of course some hopefully awesome OC'ing......ive planned for a while...next step is to order the supllies and set up my little area and work at night(which means no sleep, and falling alseep at my desk at work while dreaming about it 🙂)
