At my new job I am finding out that we are always sifting through our server to find a previous job similar to a new one we need to do (drafter in a manufacturing industry). There are hundreds of jobs that have to be searched through using only our memory of which job number had which kinds of attributes. Instead I want to start putting keywords in the file properties and use those (and importantly, ONLY those keywords) to locate jobs with similar attributes. Ive tried researching online to find something, but I cant find anything. Just to be clear, the key words are what would show up in the properties menu if you right click on a file and select properties -> summary tab. Anybody have a clue how to search exclusively for keywords? Thanks
 
You're talking about a search tool that can find text in places like the genre and comments fields of an mp3 file? Even the free version of Filelocator Pro can do it. As far as a search tool is concerned, it's just text in the file. But I dont think even Filelocator Pro can give you ONLY results that occur in fields such as the album and genre fields of an mp3 file info.
 
Im not talking about mp3's. Autocad files are what I use at work. I want to locate a file by properties -> summary -> keyword
 
You know, it's funny. I can feel competent in so many computer/IT related things, but when I try and read/comprehend how to write code, my brain melts. Seriously, its like my kryptonite. That being said, it would take quite a bit of time for me to figure that out. Any other options that I can explore before this one?
 
LOL...I just think of regular expressions like they're wildcards on steroids 🙂. You certainly don't have to learn regular expressions to use the app. The normal text with wildcards search, and all the tabbed settings available, will do what you want just fine.
 
Oh okay. So as long as I enter the right key word it will find it inside the file? Ill have to do some homework over the weekend!

Yeah coding is my worst nightmare. Did you get the FileLocator Pro? If so would you recommend?
