I'm thinking about getting me a .17 or .22 Custom Rifle that I can use to hone my shooting skills. Am looking to spend max of $500-600 including optics.

Stock - ?
Barrel - Heavy, 20-24", Fluted
Scope - ?
Bipod - Harris(will reuse from my other rifle)

Any suggestion or a complete rifle package please share. Thank you.

A custom rifle w/o optics would probably start @ $1500. I'm not sure what you're talking about.

You are not obivious very educated about .17 or .22 caliber rifles. They're cheap to customize. I'm asking for suggestions. I ain't talking centerfires here but rimfires.

In calibers this small?

.17 HMR is a fun little round, not quite as cheap to shoot as .22 LR but it's not too bad.

And it does a wicked job on squirrels.

You obviously have no tact, or are so immature about replying to a post. You made no mention about rim or centerfire. Please have a little more courtesy for someone who even bothered to look at your incomplete post.

There was a huge thread at somethingawful about .22 like your thinking of building. You have to be a member to view it though. I'm also thinking of doing the same as you. I wouldn't mind one from http://www.rhinelandarms.com/ but I hear mixed reviews of them.

I knew exactly what he was talking about. *shrug*

I wasn't being immature and if he didn't know what he was asking for then he should haven't replied to my post. The people who knows what I'm talking would. So just stay out of this one.

what are you going to use as the reciever part? Did you want a plastic stock or a wood stock, thumbhole or regular? There's just so many different combinations. I got a midwayusa.com catalog that has pages of different stocks and barrels. most of the barrels seem to be in the 18 - 20 inch length. budget wise, 250-300 would get you a decent stock/barrel combi. scope wise, I'd just get a cheap one. Its not going to get beaten around being a 22. I would get a scope with alot of zoom, that way you can tell how you are hitting up to 100 yards. 4-16x would probably do. tasco has some that are around 80 dollars. caliber wise, each one has their benefits.

Make sure you get something with a good trigger...... This will help with your shooting, Most optics on the market are pretty decent now a days, Look at the Bushnell Elite line. They are fairly cheap and are a good quality optic. Get a longer bull barreled gun that will help with the acuracy. Harris Bipod.

Alrighty, from the looks of it I think I'll be going .22 LR in a 10/20 setup and with 20" barrel [heavy]. Harris bipod, stock's still in the air. For the scope I think I'll just get me this http://tasco.com/riflescopes/22_mag39x32d.shtml as it will work just fine for targets upwards to 100yds.

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll be sure to post pictures of the build when I get em. Thanks everybody...
