probly a x1800 x1900 or 7900series gfx card
probly 300-500GB HDD or 2 smaller ones(~150-250)
2048MB of RAM low latnecy (mostly for gaming)
some sort of audigy card(Audigy 2 thru Xfi doesnt matter (xfi if price allows i would say)
didnt say for optical drives but at least a DVD burner
w/e mobo is compatable with the ****** above works

i dunno if he wants new speakers or monitors since he has 2 LCDs already not sure bout his speaker system

You'll probably get a better response in General Hardware.

With that said, yes it is possible to have a "nice" gaming PC for $1400, but it will be nowhere near top of the line. Somewhere along the lines of a X2 3800, X1800/X1900, 2 gigs RAM, X-Fi Extreme Music and whatever other little things will run below $1400 most likely. I wouldn't even look at the 7900's with all the trouble people are having with them.

You should probably wait until late July/ early August to see what price/performance the Conroes have compared to AMD's offerings (which all have various price cuts).

I could do a decent gaming rig for $900 including the monitor. For $1000, you can really build a smoker if you're not going to drop on an LCD. Let me ask this; why would someone need that big of an HD? Shell out $80 and get a (more than sufficient) 7200 RPM, 250 GB drive. Watch for the AMD X2 3800+ at $170 near the end of this month, that'll get you a great chip for a great price. Shell the money on the graphics cards since it's a gaming rig. PM me if you'd like me to outline something for you.

meh well i spend most of my time on AT in the OT but yea he has a decent PC right now he can run BF2 with decent settings but he wants to run FEAR with everything on which a x18/1900 could probly do im guess

ill tell him ur advice on the waiting but he said his current PC crapped out a few days ago so im not sure how big of a hurry he's in to get one i figured to just screw conroe cuz it wold be a bit to expensive and to hard to find a decent mobo for it but it seems itll be a bit cheaper than i was imagining

There is no way in hell a $1400 PC can run FEAR maxed, let alone divided over 2 monitors.

Case: $200
PSU: $50
CPU: $300 (x2 43800+)
Mobo: $150
x1800xt: $250 (on fs/ft forums)
300 GB seagate: $150
2x1 GB ram: $150
Xifi: $100
Optical: $50

Total: $1400

You could save by buying all this in the fs/ft forum. For instance:
CPU would be $225-250.
The HDD you could get for around $100
Xifi is going for around $80
Mobo: $100

That would make it almost $200 less, I just included prices for new stuff on everything except for the x1800xt since most people want new stuff.

You are definately posting in the wrong place if you desire input concerning building a PC!!

A X1900 can run fear on mostly high settings smoothly, but still not maxed. You do do everything max except for soft shadows and anti aliasing and get a very smooth experience.

Why would 2 monitors make a difference? The game is only running on one of them.

Sure, I'd be patient, hang out in the FS/T forums, while watching the Hot Deals forums. Given a month, I would build a far superior box for $1400, than you could. 😉

you can definitely build a great mid-high range for $1400, hell, even less than that. definitely go for the P-D 820 and OC that baby or X2 3800.. i'd wait for conroe and AMD price drops though.

Go for Intel Duo Core. You don't need that big of harddrive. You would want a fast harddrive for game and a separate harddrive for data.

Allocate as much money to gfx as possible. $1400 is alot of money. Its definitely doable

What the hell. $1400 isn't even difficult. My entire rig is worth about $1200 - $500+ of that is in HARDDRIVES - and the rest is an Opteron 165, 2 gigs of RAM, A8N-SLI, and a 7800GT.

Do you have a real surround system and not just pc speakers?

Odds are you wont know the difference between x-fi and integrated on normal speakers.

X2 3800
DFI Nforce 4 Ultra Infinity
2GB PC3200 Mushkin Standard (getting LL under any conditions is stupid, you pay a lot more for very little gain)
Geforce 7950 GX2
Lite-on DVD-RW
250GB SATA HD Western Digital WD2500YD
Your stupid thermaltake armor case thats a total waste of money...

$1450 at newegg.
