Does anyone know of a store that builds custom laptops? I will be running Linux on it so I figured why bother paying for all that software that comes installed on prebuilt ones when I will be running free opensource stuff? Just trying to save a few bucks...

or is it easier/cheaper for me to build one myself? if so, where can I get the parts??

thanks

www.powernotebooks.com will sell you a notebook without OS (some with linux) you will save 90 bucks.

I believe there are also 'barebones' notebooks (no proc or optical drive) on www.newegg.com, you can also buy the proc and other stuff there.

of course you should probably price it to see if it is actually cheaper than the major OEMs, as they usually have pretty aggressive prices when you find a good deal/sale/coupon. They may be cheaper even if they already come with windows.
