I've been searching all over the web looking for a company that creates custom games for an afforadable price. I'm lucky to get a response from most of them which really frustrates me. I want a flash game that's tailored to the subject of my site...just a regular online game, preferably multiplayer but I'll settle for single player depending on the price difference. My site has started to pick up decent traffic and earning some money so I wanted to start offering some cool stuff like games, etc. Anyone know of a good company for custom game development? It would be great if someone here has actually dealt with one of these companies.

What kind of budget are you looking at?

The flash developers we hired for a project at work cost about $70/hour so a game that took 20 hours would be $1,400.

You could try www.RentACoder.com and check www.flashkit.com for links / ads if you haven't already.

...if your budget is down at the "logo contest" level (e.g. $300 for something requiring more than a couple of hours) you'll have to settle for amateurs or moonlighters not real consultants. Then you might want to post in Off-Topic to look for a college student or moonlighter.

Thanks, I briefly took a look at RentaCoder before but I haven't checked out Flashkit yet. I was hoping to spend $1,000 or less.......I've made inquires about multiplayer games but both estimates I received were in the $15,000 price range which I'm not going to gamble on for the return on investment. I was hoping to get some tips from someone who has done this kind of thing....I don't want to screw this up basically:D

Yikes, $15,000 at say $75/hour = 200 hours = 5 weeks full time. I could see that possibly being reasonable for something of Bejeweled / Diamond Mine level quality, but not for something simpler and less refined.

Perhaps if you can rough out some of the design yourself (in Word and Paint) and come up with a good one-paragraph description you can get better estimates than 200 hours.

But since $1,000 is only 10-20 hours of professional work, you still might need to settle for a college student or moonlighter.

ps. You might also need a Flash server license for multiplayer, keep that in mind.
