Custom DVD boxed set?

SarcasticDwarf

A couple months back after my dad had a sort of stroke we got the time to sit down and watch a bunch of movies. We watched Death Wish 1-3 (there are 5 total). It is one of the best memories of my life, and for his birthday in November I would like to get him all five DVD's. They do not make a boxed set for these, so I would like to create my own. Does anyone know how I would go about doing so? I can create the designes in Illustrator without a problem, but don't know how to get it created. Would a local printer be able to create the box for it with the printing?

I remember years ago, someone made custom DVD boxed sets for the Alien Triology made out of sheetmetal, I wish I could find the link SarcasticDwarf 😱

I was thinking more of the paperboard type normally used😀

Paperboard or not, both options would be costly IMO SarcasticDwarf. Although I'm w/ you in wanting to know how "custom" sets would be made 🙂

The DVDs will be $60. I am willing to spend that much on the box as well. It is very important to me personally.

this was about the closest thing i could find. it says they'll do custom solutions, so you might be able to call them and get something done. you could also dissect an existing box set to get the layout and then just have a printing service print it on a sheet of linerboard and then put it together yourself.

EDIT: damn, cwdegood wins by a lot. listen to him, not me.

Shoebox?

Jump off a cliff.

SarcasticDwarf, Wag's idea wether or not it was sarcastic has some potential. A shoebox w/ out the lid has the same basic construction as your average DVD boxed set. Now add your own custom printed artwork and "we" might be on to something 🙂

the best way would be to cannibalize an existing box set box of the required size. Have someone do the artwork for you (if you can't yourself) and have a printing shop print it on "stickyback" for you. Apply the stickyback to the box.

That is the route I will go if I can not prind a company to do the whole thing. I would prefer the nicer look of a pre-printed box.

custom printing and assembly of a "one-off" product like that will likely run in the $150-200 range

it's all in the artwork and setup. They can print dozens of sheets for practically the same price as one.

What do you mean by in the artwork? I can put it together since I will have the dimensions needed.

the design work and layout. You could do it yourself for a Kinko's job, but any professional printer will have certain standards and requirments for artwork.

I can do that, but it would take a heck of a long time.

Hmm, interesting. I will find out when I contact them. I've had things printed with professional printers before (though nothing with this complexity) and never had problems. I just provided it in pdf and psd (flyers) with all fonts as well.

Would be great for a Terminator set.

How much would you charge for a one-off Evadman?
