Custom Designed Color Fire HD6850

That one might not appear, but others almost certainly will.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/...ufacture_Own_Design_Radeon_HD_6000_Cards.html

For years leading developers of graphics cards - ATI, graphics business unit of Advanced Micro Devices, as well as Nvidia Corp. - only allowed their partners among graphics cards manufacturers to produce reference graphics boards for some time after the announcement. However, in case of the new Radeon HD 6850 the situation is completely different.

I think the OC potential of Barts is not limited by the cards, but by the fact that AMD used simpler PCBs and less beefy coolers for 6870/6850 to cut costs. Dropping a 6870 GPU onto an MSI lightning PCB would make a world of difference IMHO.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the design of these cards? I like the black nondescript sheath that the reference card wears D:

once I put the side of my case on I couldn't care less what they look like. as long as they cool the card nicely, exhaust most of the heat and do that quietly then that's what matters to me.

From the reviews I've seen, the ASUS DirectCu, Gigabyte Windforce X2 and Sapphire (non Vapor X - just the plain single fan) all cool within a degree or 2 of one another. Nothing differentiating these custom cooled cards which is really disappointing.

Sapphire + Gigabyte:

Paints a bad picture for ASUS.

Thanks for the link, that *almost* seals the deal for me on getting a Sapphire 6850 instead of the ASUS. I'll probably wait till AT's 6850 roundup though, to decide.

If any of you guys get a overclock past 1100 let me know, I might just try one of these cards instead of a gtx460, since I have a crossfire board. These cards do look rather nice.
Thanks.
