Custom 1911

I'm not a big fan of flat-topped 1911s, but that MSH checkering and those grips are AWESOME. Great gun - I can only hope to have something as awesome to remember my loved ones by.

The MSH is actually snake skin although in the pic it looks like the golf ball checkering some people do.

The grips are custom made by Esmerelda (http://www.esmeralda.cc/) and are half Celtic weave checkering. I have a maple burl set coming that I want to use for this one though.

Pretty sweet. And the milling on the top of the slide looks good too. Sorry about your uncle; I'm sure he'd be happy you finished it.

The more I look at this gun, the more I like it. The details are nice.

I really like the pattern on the grips, but the way it's applied doesn't quite work for me. The angle it stops at is weird...either needs to have the 'checkering' on all of it, or have an edge that matches the grip angle or something?

...but they're really cool. Growing on me, actually. Gotta be CNC carved, right?

The flat top is also neat, as are the front slide ribs. And the stippling on the frame. If you are changing grips, you can get some with that diamond texture to match. But I think it needs wood.

Send me some nice wood (giggity) and I'll whittle you some grips. I need more practice.

Her site seems to indicate everything is done by hand (it looks like she uses some kind of power tool though.

I actually shot a 1911 last weekend- easily my favorite gun out of the 5 or so I shot...would love to pick one up but am leaning towards an xdm to carry

The problem with the sizes other than full size government 1911 is that reliability suffers greatly. It works ok as the commander size, but those compact carry 1911s are not something I'd trust my life with at all.

Either carry a full size 1911 or something designed from the ground up to be a smaller pistol.

I am not a big gun guy but firing at target ranges is fun. Also owning a gun you made is really cool congrates!
