CUSL2 VS. W2K install. NO GO!

The system...
CUSL2
PIII 700cb0 @933
Voodoo 5500
WD 20.5 7200/Seagate 6.5 7200
Panasonic 8X DVD
Linksys 100TX
MX300 [still will not install correctly in '98]

Dual booting '98 on C: and W2K on E: which is the first partition in the Seagate.

I've been using '98, but failed numerous times to get W2K to boot. The bar on the bottom of the screen that serves as a progress meter when W2K starts would finish and that's as far as it would go.

I've tried reparing the installation from the CD and boot disks. I finally did a full install instead of repair. It gets to the 'registering components' screen and then I get a hard freeze.

I've tried it without OCing the chip, and various BIOS settings. Memory timing, etc. Same result no matter what I try.

I'm guessing that the installation doesn't recognize the ATA100 controller and stops there.

Since the driver updates, ATA100 driver and INF, are only executable there isn't a way to use the driver until you boot all the way in.

If I choose Safe Mode, it fails to load and prompts me to choose safe mode on reboot.

I'm out of ideas...

Any suggestions appreciated!

I miss the W2K stability. Never knew how much I missed it 'til I lived with Win 98 for 2 weeks!

Just installed W2K on CUSL2. Some tips that may help:

* use bios 1002.002
* disbale legacy USB sppt unless u gotta have
* set PNP OS to no/disable (whatever it says)
* Disable second USB controller in OS if u get that far
* PCI slots 1 + 5 share IRQ, so leave slot 5 open if u use 1
* PCI 2 does not share with anything - put sound card there.
* no overclock during install

Second trick: run the driver update in win98, and when i gives you and error message alt+tab to the temp directory and copy everything. The .inf's and stuff should be there and you can manually install them durring install.
