CUSL2 mobo and Mosel Vitelic memory

My question is simple.. I have two 128 MB Vitelic dimms now. Could I just slip in another 256 MB? I've read a little about the limitations of the 815 chipset but I was unable to find the info I need.

I do now know if my 128MB dimms are single or double sided. Is there a way to check?

just look on the dimm itself, if it has chips on 1 side, it's single, if it's on both, it's double. 512mb is max...

ok. crap. they are both double sided. I also have a single sided 64 MB dimm installed. maybe that is what causes instability, since the chipset is only supposed to support four memory rows?

Youve just described my current (soon to be old) system - cusl2c w/2 128 mosel vitalec. I am using a 256 generic w/them, for total of 512mb. No problems at all.

The i815E chipset supports 6 rows of RAM.

This ONLY presents a problem on motherboards with 4 DIMM slots. The ASUS CUSL2 only has 3 DIMM slots, so double and single sided RAM is not really an issue.

The other problem that you may find is that the i815E chipset is spec'ed to only run 4 rows of RAM at 133MHz, and all 6 at 100MHz. However, ASUS have managed to get around this, on the condition that you use high quality RAM.

You can have all 3 DIMMs on the CUSL2 filled with double sided SDRAM DIMMs running at 133MHz if you are using high quality brand name RAM.

Even if you have 2 double sided 128MB SDRAM DIMMs, you should still be able to drop in a 256MB DIMM without problems.

That's the exact setup I had on my previous config, CUSL2-C with (2) 128MB sticks of Mosel. I was never able to run the board at 133/133/33. It always gave me memory errors and refused to boot, so I had to run in 133/100/33 mode (which sucked). Anyone ever have this problem or know how to fix it?

It isn't the ram because it runs fine @150 on my KK266 mobo. Hmmmmm.

The CUSL2 and CUSL2-C are known to be very picky with RAM. You could try setting SDRAM Data Driving mode to Strong in the BIOS. That usually helps.
