CUSL2-C: Installing Chipset INF drivers under Win2k prob.

Just got a CUSL2-C last week. Have a p3-500e in it.

I reinstalled clean Win98 and Win2k (dual boot) and under Win98 I installed the Chipset INF drivers from the supplied CD from Asus just fine. Believe the Asus CD has v2.60 Intel chipset drivers.

However under Win2k, the machine hangs halfway through the installation. I tried downloading the newest Chipset INF drivers from Intel (v2.80) and it did the same thing. Result in both cases was that when I reset the machine, Win2k would no longer boot, and I tried the repair function when booting from the Win2k CD but it did not work, I had to reinstall Win2k all over again.

Anyone else experienced this problem? Right now the machine is running seemingly OK without the chipset drivers loaded under Win2k but I'm worried that by not having them I am sacrificing some performance or that I might run into problems.

Yoshi, What happened when you tried, did the system lock up or did you get an error message of some sort?

I retried this again today, made a backup of win2k drive first with ghost... downloaded the newest Intel Chipset Software (2.80.008) and booted win2k into Safe Mode. It still hung at 90%

Argh! at least i dont have to reinstall win2k from scratch this time. Not having the chipset drivers is getting annoying, my USB and Serial don't work properly, and I assume that is why.

Anyone else have a solution for this?

How long did you wait before deciding the machine hung? I thought mine did too, but after about 5 minutes the installation finished.

First few times, not that long.

Yesterday, 30-40 minutes. :( Mouse was frozen in one spot on the screen even.

Ya, me too :(

I emailed Asus support yesterday, who knows if I will hear anything. I was going to post something to their Net-Q forum but the thing is far from intuitive, I gave up and just sent the email.

I'll bump again since Asus hasn't answered my email yet, and I still haven't resolved this problem. Was thinking of taking all the cards out of the machine and trying it again over the weekend, if anyone else has suggestions I'm open to them.
