After installing Windows Me, to enable UDMA, I put a check the DMA box (as I heard the Intel drivers weren't so good). However, once it reboots, the system is very jerky as it appears each time the drive is accessed, it pauses. Well, I disabled DMA, and then installed the Intel drivers, which resulted in a persistant BSOD saying "Can't write to C Drive" during boot. So now I have reformatted and have a nice clean install of Windows Me (I was hoping to get this up and running, then install Windows 2000). Any ideas as to how I can get UDMA enabled? Could the fact that I have a ZIP-100 chained with the UDMA/100 drive be the cause? Thanks!
 
I found with my mobo (win 98se) installed that I had to install the drivers or I'd get the cannot write to drive error. I had also heard they were not good but since the install of the drivers not a single problem at all! good luck!

 
If you install the intel 815e system management drivers and the intel ultra ata drivers from the intel site you do not need dma
