Curved VA or Flat PLS?

essential

Senior member
I'm buying a new monitor for a friend. I've narrowed it down to two Samsung models, both very similar, 23.6" monitors. Main difference is curved vs flat and pls vs va. I know PLS is a better panel, but I've read the subtles curves on computer monitors are beneficial. Price difference isn't great. I've never used a curved monitor, just seem them in stores. Leaning toward the flat PLS, any suggestions?

1) Samsung 23.6" Flat PLS Panel
S24D590PL $206

2) Samsung 23.6" Curved VA Panel
S24E510C $224.95

I'd consider being flat an advantage at that width. By 34" ultrawide it gets to the point where the curve is nice, and I prefer my Dell U3415W to my LG 34UM95 in part because of it. I'm not sure where it really changes, but less than 24" is probably well short of that point, because it does feel odd for a bit, it makes it harder matching screens, it's very important to adjust height and tilt and so on, and there's not the same difference in viewing angles I get when I'm making out with an ultrawide.
