Everything was working fine for months. Then my 40 gig IDE drive started making a clicking noise. When I ran checkdisk or tried defragging it the drive would click then lockup. It got worse to where I couldn?t even make into windows and finally it would make wretched noise right at powerup. Ok failed drive, no biggie it was 3 years old.
Replaced it with a 160 gig SATA, about a week later it started making noise. Would lock up if I ran checkdisk or defrag.
Exchanged it for the same drive, been ok for about 3 weeks. Last night while playing a game the hard drive made some noise and the game froze for a few seconds. Exited the game and came back to a blue screen after dinner.
I can boot to windows for now, ran some diagnostics from a bootdisk, 1 passed 1 failed with a lockup. Will click and lockup if I run checkdisk or defrag.
Have no idea what is going on because the 1st drive was IDE. I have adequate cooling, 2 80mm panaflos for intake and 1 exhaust.
I guess I?ll rma the drive but now I?m paranoid it may be something else besides bad luck on the drives, any help appreciated.
Not overclocking btw...
