I have a problem, and I think the case is involved.
Consider this:
Machine A (2 years old):
Case: Antec Case
PSU: Antec TruePower 430w
CPU: Pentium 4
Mobo: D9875PBZ
Extra parts (1 day old | 4 years old):

InWin Q500A
Seasonic S12 430w PSU | Cool3D stickered 350w PSU
Athlon 64 3700+ | Athlon 700
DSI NF4 | Asus K7V
The InWin Q500A case has worked for years housing a variety of machines.
Some months ago, the machine in it (Athlon 700) suddenly started acting
very weird. Nothing changed. It was my wifes machine so it was off for
weeks at a time. One day she tried to turn it on and nothing happened.
I checked it out. The motherboard light was on. Anyway, I just guessed
it could be the PSU so I bought a Seasonic S12 430w. I put the Seasonic
in Machine A and took out Machine A's PSU, Antec TruePower 430w.
I put the TruePower in the problematic machine... and still nothing.
At this time I experienced unexplainable inconsistency. The machine
would ~sometimes~ turn on. Sometimes it would even act like it was
trying to turn on when I was just LOOKING at it as the fans would
turn on for a second. I suspect this was caused by something I did
in the previous minute or three.
I don't think I ever got that thing to boot up and start Windows.
The next time I messed with the machine, the mobo was giving me
alarms I could not find documented in the manual. The description
most matching the sound I was hearing indicated bad ram. It sounded
like a British Ambulance and my wife joked about this for weeks.
I was fed up at this point. So I bought all new parts except case and
PSU. I had the Antec 430w PSU from my very much working machine,
and the brand new Seasonic S12 430w in said machine (Machine A).
Yesterday I got all my parts. I wanted the new parts in my Antec case.
So I took Machine A's P4 guts out and put them in the cursed InWin case.
I couldn't power on. The mobo light was on. I grabbed a "jumper clip"?
and started putting it on the header for the power-on switch. As I was
doing this the machine powered on. Unbelievable. Windows started without
a problem, and I saw my familiar desktop of the past two years.
I shut down. I hooked up the power-switch. It wasn't working. I figured
that was the problem. On one attempt, it worked. My wife was in the room
over a 5 minute period in which I told her the case and/or power switch
was the problem then changed my mind when the power switch worked...
Ok. So I thought I had the power switch connected correctly. I now thought
the machine was in working order, after all those parts have worked fine
almost 24x7 for two years. The only difference now was the InWin case.
I shut it down and begin to assemble the second machine...
I put all the new parts in the Antec Case with Seasonic PSU. I turned it on.
Went into the bios and was happy. I shut down, put in my Windows CD
and installed Windows no problem. I shut down the second machine.
I moved both machines upstairs to my office so I could install all the
software and configure everything in peace over the next couple weeks.
The machine with all new parts plus Antec and Seasonic PSU is considered
the new machine. It works just fine.
The machine with old InWin case, known working Antec PSU and all the
parts from my previous known-to-work "new" machine IS NOT WORKING.
It wont power on. It has to be the case right?
As I work on resolving this, it's deja vu all over again. This is the third time I
have seen these symptoms, and in each case only ONE thing has been constant.
THE CASE!
Ok, so I got the machine to power-on last night, but for some reason
it wouldn't send a video signal to my monitor. I think I saw this
months ago when the same thing happened with Athlon 700 guts.
I don't even know how I get the machine to power-on. The jumper
on power-on header trick doesn't work. It worked once, and maybe
that was a fluke, since the machine DOES like to act like it's about
to turn on for no apparent reason.
So I am at work now, and I am just GUESSING I should buy a new
case, after all this drama...
However, I would love to be able to turn on my "old" new machine
currently encased in the cursed InWin Q500A, because it has all my
work, email, etc on it.
I am hoping for two things by posting this here:
1. An explanation
2. Some way to turn on my machine until I resolve this
Thank you.
