Well, that is a good point about not following up. But even if the wood is from previous explorations, that would be pretty impressive.

Damn, tonight's episode was really awful. They seem to really be reaching to keep this show alive. They had this guy on who thinks the Aztecs buried gold on the island. Most of his theories didn't even make any sense so either this guy was a troll or he has a very vivid imagination.

They did however revisit the bore hole from last season where they found oak timbers at 140 some feet. They send a sonar probe down and didn't find jack. So at least they're attempting to follow up on some of this stuff. But it's starting to feel . . . maybe not manufactured but really reaching to try to fill air time.

I only learned the hole over from this thread and did some reading, my take is as long as the hole and "five fingers drain" is real it deserve the attention it is getting. Who/what is capable to dig should a 200' hole 200+ years ago with no trace of settlement?

Why ancient aliens of course :)

Apparently someone found a 1000+ year old Roman sword just off Oak Island suggest that ancient Roman may have visited.

http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/news/289553/roman-sword-allegedly-found-off-oak-island

"Some years ago, a man and his son were scalloping off Oak Island, which sees them hang a rake-like object off the back of their boat," said Pulitzer. "When they brought this up, the sword came up with it. They thought they were going to get into trouble due to restrictions in Nova Scotia which made all private shipwreck diving for treasure outlawed. So they freaked out about it."The man passed the sword on to his wife when he died and then from there it went to his daughter before eventually ending up in the hands of her husband who decided to come forward with it.According to Pulitzer, the sword's metallic properties match those of genuine Roman weapons and the shipwreck from which it allegedly came still remains untouched at the bottom of the sea."We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is Roman," he said. "I think this is the single most important discovery for the Americas - an event that will re-write history."

I saw this article earlier today. No one stopped to think that maybe someone brought it later that wasn't a roman? Sounds like a play to get more interest.

I did. I saw it on readit, it looks like they did all test and analysis to prove that the sword was from Roman era.

So the sword is real, where it came from is another story.

My first guess would be Viking(assuming it's legitimate).

Whenever I think "reality TV" has hit rock bottom, they keep digging.
Since the show is about digging on Oak Island, can't tell if this is double entendre. :colbert:

Last night was pretty bad. I don't think I've ever seen such a big deal made over a piece of wood.

I did like the addition of Fred Nolan. His theory seems somewhat plausible and certainly better than the Aztec theory from that lunatic last week.

And they did do some drilling last episode.

But they need to find something really strange and unexpected very soon or I don't think they have another season. But then again, the show is still rated as well as Big Bang reruns, so maybe they will, regardless of how bad it gets.

Another disappointing week. They drilled on Fred Nolan's property and found a void which given the type of soil was pretty strange. It was about a 5 foot void, about 100 feet down, in ground that alternates between slate and some other hard rock (shale maybe?). Apparently it's very unusual for you to find voids in this kind of rock. Although I've heard stories about people drilling in Manhattan for pilings and they hit voids. And Manhattan I think is mostly granite.

Anyway, it was intriguing and means they should be able to send a probe down.

They also seem to have found an interesting rock formation off shore that on the sonar looked like one triangle on top of another. But from the previews, I think that might have been some sort of technical artifact.

I guess they're building up to the finale at this point so I would expect the next 2 shows to have some more interesting finds. At least I hope so. This is really starting to feel a lot like one long dick tease.

I liked seeing the original author of the Reader's Digest story.
