Currently using a wired router connected to a cable modem

I have a 4 port D-Link router that is connected to a cable modem. I would like to add wireless capability to use my laptop without dragging around 50 feet of cable. Anyone have suggestions on what's the best hardware to use? I'm leaning towards going with the 802.1g hardware, I move tons of data between my machines so the faster the throughput the better. Can I connect a wireless router to the router I already have? Would that give me an extra layer of security? Or is a bridge/switch my best option in this scenario? Thanks for any advice

I would go with 802.11g as that is the best price per performance. You can connect a wireless router to your current router if you use the wireless router as an access point.

Buy either a wireless router or wireless access point. If you buy a wireless router, it would be preferable to remove the old router, and just use the new one for everything.

BTW, make sure the device has at least WPA.
