Considering either an 8800GTX or a 2900XT.

I play mostly FP shooters like Call of Duty(can't wait for 4) MOH, etc...

Which would be the best route to go?

My current system:
Pentium D 930
4GB OCZ
150GB Raptor HD
500GB Maxtor HD
16x DVD
DVD RW Drive
Cosair 520 watt PS
22" Samsung WS LCD

I likely won't be upgrading the entire system for another 12 to 18 months.
 
wait until nov 12 to see how rv670 and 8800 gt look. I wouldn't be surprised if the 3870 is close to 8800gtx, but for 1/2 the cost.

Wait because the 8800gt is faster than the 2900xt and nearly as fast as the 8800gtx looking at these benchmarks

i would wait until mid november because the rv670 looks fast too although i think the two new midrange cards will perform almost identically, NVidia wining some benchmarks ATI winning others by a few FPS
 
yeah, definitely wait and check out both 8800gt and hd3870. 2900xt is a definite no-no, and gtx is looking to either become discontinued or a LOT cheaper in the near future if these leaked benchies are legit.
