Currently have 3-4-4-8 memory at 1GB...

I've currently got Corsair TWINX1024-4000PT ram, so it's 1GB (2X512MB) with 3-4-4-8 timings. I'm beginning to realize that not only is it relatively slow compared to other dimms, I also need to get more ram. So I've got a few things to wonder.
1. How much could I possibly get for these dimms?
2. Are these the Dimms I should get: Crucial 3200 Ballistix
I thought of those dimms after reading this review on anandtech. Review
More Review
3. Are there better dimms than these or not.

My motherboard is an IC7-G therefore being a Pentium 4 Board.
I also forgot to mention that I'm currently running at DDR500 speeds, therefore adding a lot of confusion/variables to the equation. I thought I should while getting 4 512MB sticks, I would get faster memory.

You can always get 2X1 GB of G.Skill for DDR500...

Crucial Ballistix PC3200 are good up to 250 mhz, nothing more... 2.5-2-3-5 1T.

Well I've tried overclocking to 3.6GHZ but anything past 250 seems to not run very stable. I can prime 255 fine for quite a while but it doesn't prime forever and eventually just fails and I beleive this is regardless of whether or not it's on memory divider, unless of course you can guide me to a way of overclocking higher than 3.5GHZ from my 2.8...

The only other reason I would get ram that could scale higher is if I were to be able to overclock the CPU higher which as of this moment, doesn't want to go..

Have you tested 5:4 @ 2-3-2-5?

I run my ABIT IS-50 M-ATX 2.8C rig @ 3.5GHz / RAM 5:4 (2-3-2-5) / Street Racer... Plenty snappy for me... ;)

I paid extra $$ so that I could run it in sync, I wouldn't want to run it at slower memory speeds with higher timings.. Anyways, I've tried what you've mentioned and it turns out I have abysmal memory timings at DDR 400 speeds so that doesn't really benefit me anyways..

I am considering taking the risk in getting 2 more sticks of the same ram and taking the hit on 2T since this is the cheapest upgrade option to 2Gb (unless I get some real cheap unbranded 1Gb sticks which is not an option). I did some tests which I posted in this thread and found that 2T made little difference to gaming performance (based on the 3dmark05 score). Lowering timings also had a minimal effect. I found MHz to be the most important factor which confirms what you are saying. Unfortunately it seems that there isnt anyone in these forums with experience of using 4 modules so I'm still undecided.

Not sure dude.

I'd think running 4 sticks would be overly detrimental and you're just going to end up around the same but higher bandwith.

I'm having problems reight now where I just bought $180 RAM and it can't even run 1:1 it seems (2gb corsair ddr400 pc-3200 xms). So I'm more than a little aggitated, and any questions I've seeked to ask have gone on deaf ears for the most part. =\

Are you running an AMD 64? (Assumes you've got 4 dimms) Might want to return them and get some other....

A64 X2 3800+ (manchester) - can max clock at 2.6 w/ 1.5v or 2.5 w/ 1.45
2GB (2 x 1 GB) Corsair XMS DDR400 PC-3200 @ 2.5-3-3-7

Can't seem to get anything out of my memory at ALL. If I try and run a conservative o/c @ 10 x 250 and 266 divider with cl at 2 I get freezes in windows and I can't even run 1:1 400mhz memoryclock at default 200mhz htt/fsb (even with the cpu multi down and 2.9v in the dram), so I'm forced to run 2.5.

I'm totally frustrated, I'm at the point where I've thrown my hands in the air and am running @ the afformated crappy o/c with ****** mem speeds.

I can't fhnthom how everyone is knocking on the door of 220-230+ memory speeds when I can't even hit 200 with this RAM. Don't know if I'm doing something really stupid and I can't be ****** buggered to go through a 2 week RMA process if that's the case.

If your DDR400 memory can't run at 200MHZ, it's simply bad, I'd RMA it because that's just ridiculous to have your memory not achieve those speeds and you paid $180 for it... RMAing is a b1tch but it's better than throwing money out the window...

drakleon, have you left all the timings on their auto settings? have you got XMS3200C2PT or XMS3200PT? C2PT is rated at CL2 & PT CL3 in the 1Gb modules. What about 1T/2T, what's that set at? You will only have legitimate claim for RMA if you cant hit 200MHz at the default timings. Anyway, if you've been reading around, you find that timings make very little real world difference (in games) so you're better to loosen them and get as big an overclock as you can. The only way to find out what's best is to benchmark with an app like pcmark & 3dmark rather that Everst or Pi.

goku, if you've been following my thread you'll have seen the post by MrSpadge who has pointed out that on A64, the mem controller cant handle 4 double-sided modules at the full PC3200 speed. This was confirmed by a UK retailer who I emailed for pre-sales advice. They said they've seen lots of cases where people with 4 dimms filled can only get DDR333 out of the memory & advised me to get a pair of 1Gb. Of course they would do because they want the sales but they also said they wouldnt accept used 512 modules back just because they didnt reach full speed on 4xdimm configuration. So the risk is too great for me so I'm going to sell my GEIL and buy some G.Skill PC4000 and try to get 1:1. I read they can usually do 275MHz which would be enough for me.

You're all gonna hate me, but I was a tool and installed the RAM onto A_1 and A_2. Moved the second stick to B_1 and am running right now @

10 x 260 - 333 divider / 2.5-3-3-6 (can't seem to run stable with cl at 2) / HT x 3

Will prime it overnight to be sure, but I feel good about it. Now just to get my harddrive/raid compatibility issues fixed and I'm sitting pretty :)

(in case anyone doesn't mind answering a HDD question since everyone is very helpful here:

Anytime I run a benchmark like PC Mark 04 or 05 HDD tests I get stupid results like 0.001 mb/s, and my computer takes far to long to boot up with this rig and barely anything installed.

Running a RAID-0 Striped with 2 74 gb raptors as my OS/main drive with an additional IDE drive for storage. On initial install, I used driver disk correctly, loaded both drivers, installed windows fine, but failed to change HD priority in BIOS or whatever till just recently, so my RAID/main drive is E. No device problems in device manager, RAID/SATA/SCSI drivers all installed (albiet, they're 2002 driver) and I can't seem to update them automatically, says they're most current. Also, in my systray I have a 'Remove Hardware' icon that lists me to remove my raptors. The drive ies appearing as a Nvidia Striped disk drive, etc.

I'm not sure if thisis all normal or not, as this is my first RAID setup. Any quick answers are greatly appreciated, and thanks for the answers before to my stupidty. I was a second away from RMA'ing it for no reason andbeing pc'less for 2 weeks.

go on google and search for "smart.exe", after downloading it, run it from CMD (not by double clicking the file) and see if your drives are failing, I have a feeling they're failing...

This drive does not appear to be SMART compliant :(

It's possible that beause you're in raid, it's unable to read your smart information. You might want to break up the array or something.. Maybe disconnect one drive, hook it up to a computer and then attmept to read it? naa that probably won't work, well I have a feeling your drives are bad 'cause thats kinda what happened with my sister's laptop drive.

 for the most part if your bios support SMART or not, it doesn't really matter because the drive's smart info can be accessed directly.
