I'm getting another Seasonic PSU (although the next will be 600w, and it will replace the 660w Enermax) in 7 days, so I'm not bothering with getting everything pretty yet. That will come later.

Current specs:
Enermax FS2300B case, 23x5.25" drive bays
Enermax 660w PSU (primary)
Seasonic 500w PSU (secondary)
Supermicro X5DAE mobo
dual Xeon 2.66 GHz with HT
2GB PC 2100 DDR
4x250gb Hitachi in RAID 5 (had five, but one is getting replaced)
dual Zalman ZM-MFC1 fan controllers
4xZalman hd coolers
BFG 6800 GT OC

Tas is a tease.

Not impatient, we become curious. In various places, "double-wide" means a mobile-home in two pieces. This has got to be a server-case I've never seen or thought of, but who makes it? Or is it original "Tas?"

Second, I see two power supplies, but no water-cooling apparatus. I'm only guessing that you have some sort of TEC-cooling plan in mind.

Enlighten us, oh wondrous wizard . . . what are you doing here? [In the pics, I mean?]

Okay, the impatient one was CraKaJaX... 🙂

The case is an Enermax FS-2300B. Unfortunately, they apparently don't support or make it anymore, as it is no longer listed in the server cases at Enermax's US page. And I think that really sucks, because it's a great case. Although the 100 pound shipping weight really sucks.

Dual PSUs is because I had a lot of issues previously. I was trying to run a dual Xeon rig off of a 460w Enermax, and that just doesn't go well. So I ended up modding the case (yea, that was scary. Modding a $600 case) to put in another PSU. Been doing it every since. Dual +12V my arse. heheheheheheh.

Bonzai, that is not true. I put out. 🙂 No water cooling... I thought about it, but not feasible in my rig, as I couldn't stand to have water around the mobo and CPUs. And I can't over clock with this mobo, so it would just be pointless. Also, I'm more worried about cooling the room off than the machine. It's gets so hot in the office from the computer. After I get an AC put in here, I will be set.

This machine is for rendering in 3DS Max. Although the wife uses it for Guild Wars. She bought me the 6800 GT OC, so I have the PNY Quadro 4 900 XGL in the closet. When I build her a gaming machine, I get to get me a Quadro FX 2000, and turn this into a rendering machine once more.

I came back to visit this evening just because I was curious about posts after mine on this thread.

Everybody else -- the trend -- thinks "smaller is better." "Shuttle." Laptops, etc.

I myself just picked up the entirety of a 1990's era Compaq PRoliant SCSI-2 RAID server with the hot-swap bays behind a hinged door, a 486 board (with EISA slots -- remember that? I had one of those 12 years ago.) The volume of the case is probably equivalent to two full-towers of our greater familiarity. Given the standard for the U-shaped case panel of yesteryear, they actually put slide-off side panels on this sucker.

I think I can make the minor mods to turn the motherboard pan into ATX, but if it's too much trouble, I have an "L-shaped" ATX mobo-pan/PCI-slot-panel, a Dremel, and "reliable intelligence" about some U-shaped aluminum rails at Home Depot.

The fan-array-panel in your case is interesting. Lotsa room there, and it promises to muffle some noise.

I'm saving it for an idea I have . . . a chilled water system entirely self-contained, except for the heat. I need to find someone who does metal-work, comfortable with working with copper sheet-metal and gas-tanks -- that sort of thing.

And I, too, will probably need an extra PSU inside the hood . . . .

What all do you need to power with the second PSU? I've got a Enermax 460w that I'd be glad to send you for the price of shipping. It won't work with a mobo though. The 24p connector has been cut off, and a switch put in place to control the PSU. And in all honesty, I believe it to be of questionable stability. But you can definitely see if it works for you...
