Current PS3 "must haves"

So... I jumped the gun and ordered my PS3 slim.

What are the "must haves" for this console? I don't care about exclusives, I just want some games that are fun and look good. I have been looking through so many lists my head is spinning, so I'm curious to see what the AT crowd likes.

So far the only surefire games I am going to get are Street Fighter 4 and Soul Caliber IV.

Street FIghter 4 - Best game this generation!! But be warned, PSN is pretty whack for it and finding random games can be a chore.

Uncharted - one of my favorite all time action adventure games. story is awesome, voice acting is the best i've ever seen in a game, and you can actually feel chemistry between the characters. graphics are also probably the best this gen. by far the most cinema-like video game. can't wait for the sequel.

Ratch and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction - my favorite platformer in a very very long time. i even played through the game about 5-6 times so i could level up all the weapons to max. it's a very long game as well for this genre. it feels almost like pixar quality that you are playing. the DLC only game, Quest for Booty which is $15 I didn't enjoy as much as the full game, but if you like the story you should get that too. the next version comes out this fall as well.

Resistance 2 - personally my favorite single player FPS of this gen. the multiplayer was very iffy, but the single player had an awesome story with a ton of variety.

Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds - best golf game to date. don't let the cartoony big headed graphics make you think this is a childs game. this game has a better physics engine than the tiger woods games do, and just has an overall much more rewarding feeling than tiger woods does.

Cool suggestions, Uncharted sounds pretty interesting as does Resistance 2.

Purbeast's list is pretty spot on, especially HSG4, that game is a gem..

I would just replace SF4 with Infamous as my top PS3 game, but I'm not really into fighting games so take it with a grain..

Uncharted is a must buy.

Other games to round out my top 5 are Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2, rock band 2, and madden 10.

well, really, what genre do you like and we can go from there

I like SRPG, so Valkyria Chronicals and Disgaea 3 is great, but some people hate strategy games and just want to blow shtt up!!!

LOL, just realized you must feel like a kid waiting for Christmas to arrive

My five are:

Uncharted: Great controls, definitely in the top 5 most impressive graphical games this console generation, charming story and laugh-out-loud funny sometimes, great voice acting.
Heavenly Sword: Interesting story, amazing facial animations, great gameplay.
Gran Turismo 5 / Prologue: Prologue is awesome, GT5 coming later this year will basically be Prologue x 100.
MGS4: Most amazingly cinematic, on-the-edge-of-my-seat game I've ever played (at least since the original Resident Evil on the PSOne).

I'll add a fifth when I think of one that is worthy of my "greatest" status. 😛

I loved the earlier Soulcalibers, but I suggest you skip that one. It's usually under $20, but still not worth it to me. I played maybe 2 hours and haven't bother to play again. It's fun, but if you're getting SF4, might as well skip SC4.

+1 on Infamous, but try out the demo first

Cool, yeah I like RPG's. Disgaea 3 looked so weird from the previews I saw I wasn't sure about it.

Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted (rental), Valkyria Chronicles, Mgs4, Heavenly Sword (rental) Maybe look into Folklore also. Killzone2 was good but with new shooters coming out for the holidays I'd wait to buy it.

What the heck is Little Big Planet about? The cover looks just plain odd.

Its a puzzle/platformer..

Tried it, and it wasn't for me, but it does seem to have quite a following.

oh shtt, I forgot about MLB 09 The Show

if you are into baseball, YOU NEED THE SHOW, don't even skimp out and get 2K9, there's a reason it's on clearance

It's awesome with 3 other players playing locally. That, and the tools to build your own levels is awesome.

My list is:

Resistance 1 and 2
Killzone 2
Metal Gear Solid 4
Uncharted

Um...that's all I can think of currently...I have more games than that, but they're currently packed for college.

Here are the top 5 games I play most on my PS3 -

Hot Shots Golf Out of Bound - Love this series since PS1. Great great great golf game.
GTA4 - The more I play this game, the more I like it. Great stories.
MGS4 - Epic. I'm almost done with this game. I think I'm in Act 4. Must have if you like sneaking around.
LittleBigPlanet - They're gonna add water in the next big patch! WATER! It's like playing Mario Bros with limitless customized stages.
GT5 Prologue - Love this series since PS1 as well. And I got the force GT wheel this time!
