I've tried to put together a sample build someone might use if they wanted to spend a reasonable amount of money on an extremely fast PC. The use I have foremost in mind is gaming, but the X2 excels in many areas.

MonarchPC Combo: $564
-MSI K8N NEO4 Plat / NF4-Ultra
-A64 X2 3800+
-Shin-Etsu Thermal Grease
-Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu
Seasonic S12-500W $129
OCZ Value 2x1GB PC3200 $193
MSI RX800XL $292
SB Audigy 2 Value $62
Barracuda 300GB 7200.8 SATA $200
Subtotal: $1440

All prices save the MonarchPC combo are from Newegg. If you have a better price, let me know!

I agree, although I might step up on the RAM a bit (to PC4000 or something similar) because I think the 3800+ should be a good candidate for overclocking, and being able to increase the RAM clock to at least the 240 to 250 MHz range usually brings some decent performance gains.

Get 2x 200gb or 250gb hard drives instead of one 300gb for $200... That just doesn't make sense

That 'Cudas has been on rebate from Circuit City for $99, check their website if the deal's still up.
