Current i5 2500K with GTX570 SLI, should I upgrade to GTX780?

It has been 2 years since I built my gaming system(in signature) so I started looking at a new build with a Haswell CPU and a GTX780, but it doesn't seem like the cost is justified right now. I am starting to think that I would be better off just investing in a GTX780 for my current rig and putting off a completely new build another year. I am just looking for a quick sanity check, does that sound like a good option? Your thoughts?

With the 9970 coming in October and allegedly being revealed on the 25th (two weeks) make sure you wait that long. If you've waited for 2 years you should get a price drop in October on the 780 as the 9970 should force a price drop.

yes i agree. If AMD is launching around the corner (and this is what we are hearing) then waiting would be the smarter thing to do. Regardless if your interested in AMD right now or not, it should shake up prices i would think. Depending on how awesome things are, the 780 could get a price drop real fast. Or it may get crushed by a better card, one that is better all the way around. You just never know.

I am not sure how soon this new AMD architecture will hit the shelves but many people claim its very very soon. It always excites me to see new hardware and this is no exception. So waiting these couple of weeks would be my pick and if nothing happens then just go ahead with your purchase. I dont think a few little weeks would hurt but they could really really help.

As for the CPU, me thinks a 4ghz 2500k is just fine......a-okay

CPU is fine,
I wish I could say pull the trigger on the GPU, but with the next launch looming in a month or so its hard to say go for it. If you had something lesser than SLI'ed 570's I'd say screw it but I find it hard to think of a game that your current set up can't tear through.

CPU is fine

That is kind of what I was worried about, I appreciate the confirmation that it won't be too limiting.

I wasn't planning on pulling the trigger for another month anyways so another week or so won't kill me if it means saving some cash so I am glad I asked.

Thanks everybody!

I made this exact move a few weeks back. Had dual 570s, went to a 780. In most cases I would say overall there wasn't a massive performance difference. The 570s ran just about everything veryvery well (at 1440) the 780 did the same. A few games (BL2, Skyrim) seemed to prefer the 780 though as I saw fewer dips below 60fps.

Since then I have added a 2nd 780.......I think Im good for a while now.

You are assuming two things. Both remain to be seen

1) That AMD can deliver on time
2) That AMD actually competes with the 780 in performance.

I also have an i5 2500K at 4.635GHz. This CPU STILL is a great CPU even today and for years to come. It'll even keep up with the upcoming Radeon HD 9970 or the Maxwell GTX 880!
