Current high-end tablet offerings?

I'm sort of out of the loop here. I'm looking for a mid-high end tablet (not an iPad). I keep seeing news about up and coming products for the last year or so but how many are here? What are my options for tablet PCs? I'm not looking for a traditional tablet (laptop with swivel touch screen).

Probably six months ago I was looking for Atom based tablets with Windows 7 but only found 1 by Archos and it doesn't seem to be made anymore. Is there anyone out there with better hardware than essentially smartphone internals with a larger screen (see: iPad)?

So far, I haven't seen anything that beats iPad. You know - up close and personal. 🙂

The Asus Slate is an option. It has an Intel i5. It's heavier than the iPad at 2.5lbs, but also runs Windows 7 which for me is a plus.

I'm waiting to see if it can be upgraded to 8GB RAM. I would use it to replace my current Thinkpad tablet, which is in tablet mode most of the time anyways. It's just getting a bit old.

For now I'm waiting to see what the Sandy Bridge line of Thinkpad tablets will be.

The only thing keeping me from getting an ipad is the cost, pure and simple. Then again, I'm not one of those people who throw money at apps so I'd probably not use it to it's maximum capability.

The Motorola Xoom, LG G-Slate both look like they might give the iPad a run for its money...

...but it just depends if you like Android or not.

As far as Windows 7 tablets go, wait until you start seeing newer gen processor architecture rather than the crappy Intel Atom stuff... You could look at Asus' behemoth eee pad 12-incher.

The xoom wont stand a chance @ it's price point ($800, wifi crippled w/o data plan). Android needs to get decent tablets down around $300 before they will compete.

The surprisingly decent one right now is the nook Color. You can root it, and they have the early workings of Gingerbread running on it. It comes in @ $249 iirc.

android needs to figure out a marketplace before i drop $0.01 on it .

it's not 1/100th' the quality of a nicely jailbroken ios device - marketplace wise.

apptrackr smokes all android marketplaces combined lol.
