That game is fast paced and really requires some muscle in your videocard.
I cant even play the game 1600x1200 everything up with my X1800XL and the rig i have in my sig. And NFS MW is an AWSOME game! extremely addicting!

The last good NFS was PU. No doubt, no discussion. :)

I cannot stand the computer cheating, lack of good damage modeling, or the lack of just about everything that makes a car sim fun.

This describes every NFS that has been made since then.

Any way to make it work under xp again? So far, i got the xp patch, but that just emans it runs in career mode but there is no way to exit the first race so i am stuck after the first race watchimng replays.

btw, MW ai is major crap. I would go slow on purpose in the earlier races and you'd see oponents on a straightway take a 90* turn into a wall. Then now on the harder races, i've raced multiple times just to lose. It's no fun going 195mph and taking every shortcut when your opponent can drive 315mph through a 180* corner.

The arguements before are, there is Prey and UT2007. Prey is scheduled, without a fixed date, for June and UT2007 for Winter. By that time, new gen cards will be released or close enough to it. I feel like my 7800 has gone to waste. I spent almost 400 beans and I played 2 or 3 next gen games, 1 out of which might have actually been worth playin with the 7800 (FEAR). But, it wasn't worth 400 bucks.

This sucks.

Look at it from the positive side. Your video card will now have a longer useable lifespan before you need to upgrade again. Maybe we're just swinging back to the "hardware outpacing software" side again.

The games I found most challenging were I had trouble adjusting performance was COD2 and FEAR. And they looked good, but not that good. Not 400 dollars worth good. And it was only 2 games. To me, it's looking really bad for PC games. It's not even the fact retailers are cutting down on them, but PC developers are looking at consoles too. And what's to stop them of making cheap ports. IMO, if consoles had a common API, it would mean cheaper and better games for all, but doesn't seem likely. A lot of games coming out don't seem to be that good. 2004 was awsome with plenty of games. 2005 had 4 games, and one of them sucked and one was buggy and almost not worth playing IMO - battlefield2. And FEAR and COD2, which were good and Quake4 was a dissappoinment.

Maybe all of you have been doing it for years, but I'm realizing now - is it worth it to spend 400 dollars a year to game on the PC? I tell you it doesn't seem like it is. I'll just have to knock that price down to 200 bucks and see how I feel, but a lot of factors are seriously having me thinking about going back to consoles sometimes. Let's hope 2006 is a better year with Prey,HL2 Episodes (let's hope they're worth it), UT2007, and the new Splinter Cell (prolly favorite PC series of all time) will be freaking great.

Funny.. I havent had that problem on the 360.. the game is pretty easy I never lose races.. Im Blacklist #2 right now and havent had to redo a race for half the game..
now pursuits on the other hand.. omfg.. i love them.. but i hate them...
fvcking 5ton Corvettes and 10 ton SUVs that just brutalize you when you need to survive for 15 mins just for the last milestone

Whats more disappointing is the lack of support for the new generation of cards. What ever happen to high definition lighting? The only thing we have to show for it is a new level in HL2. All these games that looks so promising end up medicore stripped down versions of their previews. This year they plan a new Half Life 2, Prey, Quake Wars, Oblivion, Stranglehold , Hitman: Blood Money, medieval 2, and of course Unreal 2007.

Not to mention the few blockbusters coming to PS3 and Xbox 360. Including Resident Evil 5, GT4, Grand Theft Auto 4, and I would sure love to see a new bloody Mortal Kombat on the new systems :) (Fatalities take on a whole new life with full precision DX9 graphics).

I talked to other console gamers and they love it too and win regularly without too much difficulty. Maybe the "rubber banding" isn't so bad in the console version.

But to be honest, VIAN, I love buying the new hardware and tweaking it, and then selling it again. For me, games are about playing with the hardware more than anything :)

From my experience... you will almost always get burned by buying the latest greatest. Personally, I could never dropped $400 on a video card either - i'm just not that committed to gaming. I just need something ~$200CDN that will get me decent frame rates/quality... 1024x768 is fine for me for most stuff. I work with computers each day tho, so "tweaking" in my personal time doesn't have the shine it once had.

My last card was a 9500 Pro and I paid ~$180CDN for it. That card lasted me ~3 years and still works fine today. I've since bought a new X1600XT for my new system (priced between a 6600GT/6800GS in the Canadian market) and it suits my needs perfectly. The price was right and it lets me play some titles at 1280x1024 with on about medium-high'ish settings. Most stuff I play at 1024x768 so I can max the quality tho.

I game with my 7800GT at 530/1351 and COD2 just brutalizes it at highest settings. Have to tone it down a notch to keep 40-60fps.

I like it so much, I'm getting a second.

DONT! Quickly sell it, as in, right away!

And buy 2 x 7900 GT's! :D

lol, seriously thinking about it. I'm going to wait and see what kind of headroom they have before I make a move one way or the other. Heck, mine is pretty close to 7900GT specs anyway.

That's what I like about it. It's realistic. If you look at the sun in COD2 you'll get blinded just like in real life. This is opposed to Source engine HDR.

Don't say "source engine" HDR, many aspects of the HDR feature are controlled by the creator of the map.
Blame Turtle Rock or Valve mappers for over doing it, not the engine.

There is that spot in loast coast though, where you look at the windows in the church and it is almost blindingly bright for a moment till freemans' eyes adjust.

Didn't read anything except the OP's post. I don't think my 7800 GTX has gone to waste. I have enjoyed several games with it... Lets see here... I really enjoy Half-Life 2, Fary Cry, Star Wars: Empire At war, Battle for Middle Earth 1 & 2, Serious Sam 2, Halo and many more games! I am not sure what your definition of waste is, but it certainly isn't the same as mine.
