Hi, I'm planning on purchasing Elder Scrolls: Skyrim when it comes out but I'm not sure if my computer will be able to run it well. Here are my basic specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz

RAM: 2.00 GB

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT

Do you think this will be enough or do I need to upgrade anything? Your help is much appreciated! Thank you! :)

What resolution? Do you just want to play it at the lowest settings? Or do you want eye candy?

Regardless, at least wait until the recommended specs are released - or even better, some performance analyses or benchmarks - and then decide if upgrading is in order. You may think that you might as well upgrade earlier, but after you know exactly how the game will run, you can make better purchase decisions.

You'll definitely want to upgrade the GPU. But the CPU and RAM will most likely be fine.

Probably. Oblivion was a killer for years after it came out though, so who knows for sure? Just like every other "big" game, people should wait for the benchmarks before buying.

I usually try to play all my games at the highest settings, although I make exceptions if the lag is too much...games like fallout and oblivion run ok on my current pc at highest settings, usually with the resolution at 1650x1050. I'm looking to upgrade enough to where I can run skyrim on high to highest settings with smooth performance. Although you're right about the specs not being released yet, I just want to know if I had decent enough equipment or if anything was sorely lacking. Thanks for the help! Good to know I only really need an updated GPU!

How do you play anything this side of 2003 on high with a 9400GT? The 9400GT is half a 9500GT which is half a 9600GT, which is around the level of an original G80 8800GTS.

You should be getting 10FPS in Oblivion with a 9400GT.

No but that's the whole point, you don't know that yet. The specs/benches aren't out yet. To be able to play the game at high settings, it may require upgrading the CPU or it may not.

Its true the recommended specs haven't been released yet but I'll go out on a limb here and speculate that your current rig won't run Skyrim with everything set to high. Bethesda is putting a lot of emphasis on detailed graphics of the natural environment they say. You'll probably need to at least upgrade the GPU to run it in high settings if thats what you want. Since we don't know the game's spec yet we don't know how powerful a card you will need or if your current CPU will be bottled necked or not trying to run it as well. Your best bet is to wait for the game's specs to be released before thinking of upgrading. Just be ready to pay for a beefier CPU and GPU.

Some users have some really good videocard deals in the FS forum here now. You might want to take a look and maybe you can get a nice upgrade and help a fellow member out at the same time:thumbsup:

OP doesn't sound like he's in any position to know what's a good deal or even what is likely to play Skyrim, and modern graphics cards at a good price are snapped up immediately on FS/FT. He's better off waiting until the requirements are known and then asking again than, say, picking up an $80 5830.
