OK... it seems like as a million countries have their currencies named Dollar, a million others have pound, franc, rupee, dinar or peso..

Why can't they think of an original name... Is choosing a name for your currency so damn difficult?

think outside of the box dude... i mean at country XXXX, they could call their currency blah blah, but we'd still translate it into dollar.

Chinese have Yuan (which is sometimes translated as dollar)

Yeah, but lots of times it really is the same word. Take the crown...kroner, koruna, krooni, koruny, it all means the same thing. Or real, riyal, rial, etc...it's the same, most assuredly. Not just a coincidence of translation.

I'm inclined to agree with the OP on this one. It seems that few countries can muster the creativity to come up with a good name for their currency.
