Curling champions could sweep up with supermarket

I found this quite humorous, but I'm not sure if anyone else will, though.

<< A supermarket chain is hoping to sign Britain's Olympic gold medal winning curling team in a deal to promote floor cleaner.

Safeway believes the team members, captained by Rhona Martin, have all the skills necessary to test its own-brand Vecta product and are planning to offer them a contract.

With their victory over Switzerland in Salt Lake City the team claimed Britain's first Winter Olympic gold since ice dancers Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean in 1984.

Safeway says it wants to take advantage of the techniques used by the players and is preparing to make an approach to the five women - Martin, 35, Debbie Knox, 33, Fiona MacDonald, 27, Janice Rankin, 30, and last night's reserve, Maggie Morton.

A supermarket spokesman says: "The scrubbing movement by the team members is the ideal way to test kitchen and bathroom floor cleaner and Safeway feel the girls could teach us a thing or two about scrubbing."
