Curious what my low-end, new TV would have gone for five years ago

I'm a TV luddite and only just broke down and paid $199 for a 32" Samsung LED 1080p set. 60hz.

Only weighs 9 lbs, which for a guy who had a tube set that weighed what a subway train does us amazing. My understanding is that 720p on a 32" set is fine, but the sale price on the 1080p was just as much as the 720p model, so why not.

It has 2 HDMI inputs and a USB slot, so no big deal. But I was wondering what $200 would have gotten me, say, in 2009 or 2010?

I bought a 40" samsung 1080p back in 2009 maybe and it was around $650 out the door if I remember right. Based on that I don't think $200 would get you much.

I bought my 32" Westinghouse LCD 720p in 2008 for $350 which was a great deal then. Got my 42" Panasonic plasma back in 2006 for $1170 (1300 - 10% GIECO deal). Now I can get a 60-65" LCD for around $1k.

My westi 42" was 780 inc tax in feb 2008 but that was dell deal of the day 450 off.

Makes me cry that I paid $1500 for a 46" LCD 7 years ago. Even more makes me cry that was 7 years ago! Feels like a year ago.

End of 2008 I bought a used 40" Samsung 720P/1080i TV for $600. I don't think there was hardly any flat panels in 2009 you could of picked up for around $200. Certainly not a 1080P TV.

Yep, I grabbed the exact same TV for ~$270 on Black Friday that year.

It was a great TV for the price. I gave it away to a friend after I bought a Sammy plasma in 2010, but it still works to this day.

I got a 42" LCD for nearly $2000 at Costco when that was a bargain (they'd come way down), and then I got a 65" LCD for $2000 when the going price was $5000 as I recall.

I remember seeing the new flat-screen TV's - don't remember the size, but somewhere from 32" to 40" I think - for $10,000.

In 2007 I bought an $1800 40 inch Samsung with a $600 off direct tv deal. I almost went with a 42 inch Panasonic plasma. I'm still using it. If it was plasma I'm sure it would be broke by now.

Doubt it. I bought a 50" Vizio plasma in 2008 that's still going strong. Gave it to my father in law a few years ago and it's still working. Damn thing doubles as a heater but still works.

Depends on luck. My sister in law's 50" panny plasma had its powe fail under warranty, fixed. Then it died again, I bought a doner tv (cracked screen) swapped out the power module and the damn thing died again. So three power module in the span of less than two and half years. ST50 I think is the model.

Maybe something with the model? I replace that one with an ST30 in 2012 that is still running strong. (Clearly I like plasmas)

Bought a 42" CCFL Toshiba Regza 7 years ago at 1300$ for a KILLER DEAL, just replaced it this Black Friday with a 49" LG 4k for 499$. Also replaced the 26" LCD TV in the bedroom that I payed 600$ for with a 169$ Samsung 32". I honestly cant believe how quick LCD prices dropped, CRT's before they were phazed out pretty much held their ground on prices.
